VHT Pitbull 45

I'm looking for some general information about this amp, as it's been offered to me as trade bait. What kind of tones can it cover (blues, jazz, rock, metal, etc)? How are the cleans? How's the gain? If anyone knows where I can find some soundclips, that'd be great too as I haven't been able to find any yet.

Nothin' but love for the PB45 on The Gear Page. Here's their take on fair prices for used ones.

I had a BP45 head for a few years, great amp - it will cover blues and rock but not metal - good cleans, excellent rock crunch, lots of tweakability (mid shift, boost etc.), xlnt effects loop, and built like a tank. I sold it thinking to get a combo amp but ended up going in a completely different direction - wish I would have kept it! I have no idea where you can get sound clips and unfortunately there aren't too many dealers around to try one out - but if your a blues/rock player I'm pretty sure you'll like the amp.

Yeah, I found lots of good stuff on the amp there, and it looks to be right up my alley. How does it compare to the Rivera Rake, if you can draw a comparison?

I've decided to go ahead and trade, but additional comments would be nice reading .

The ability to switch between class A and A/B really intrigues me, as do the many comparisons the cleans get to Vox and Hiwatt.

VHT makes really good stuff if you ask me.
to me they sound like a great Marshall.

as for the 45 i liked it alot. very versitile but i prefer the el-34 to el-84. just not my cup of tea.
Beautifull amp tho. and i think it is a good price.
VHT is top quality.
i think VHT is classified as Boutique isnt that right guys?

VHT is clearly boutique...

I don't have any experience with that actual model but have been very happy with my Pitbull 100CL. VHT is great stuff.

They're probably pretty comparable. Scott P. sold me his Rake after the PB45 became his go-to amp. I get the impression that the PB cleans are more Voxy (thanks to the EL84s) and that it probably has more gain on tap than the Rake on the OD side.

wow, good find Fret! good luck with that one chief, I think you'll find it more useful than the rectoverb, which while a good amp, can be a bit troublesome to find your tone

Yeah, I think it will be a pretty good match. I like the Rectoverb, but it's just geared more towards rock and metal. I just don't use the gain channel unless I'm playing the occasional cover, but 90% of the time I use the clean channel and my pedals.

Just noticed this post, and thanks for the info. Sounds like this could be exactly what the doctor ordered.
