Re: Vht

If I had the money I would have a Pitbull head... I love these amps, they are great for highgain, and IMO they even have a killer clean sound...clean enough for country and or jazz, but will get down right nasty! The only thing I ever hear people say negative about them is that they are so well defined that if you are a sloppy player they will show it (I for one love that they are so articulate!)

:cool3: I like nasty.

Re: Vht

VHT is the amp I've always wished I could afford. It's just the ultimate high gain Marshall type sound AFAIC. Just incredible. Every one I've played completely floored me.

If ya got the $, go for it!

Something has definitely changed in the Pitbull 50 as far as design, tho. The original Pitbull 50 has a very weak clean sound, where as the Pitbull 50 II's clean sound is much better, as well as adding a graphic EQ.

Could be Ben...I haven't tried a PB in a long time. And yes the clean channel was a bit "weak" (though no worse than most Marshalls, IMO). Gain channels do roll off nice though with the guitars volume.

At the same time though, I wouldn't buy a VHT for clean ;) :D It's a total crank the damn thing up amp, AFAIC. Clean is just an afterthought :)

Re: Vht

I'm in 100% agreement about the reason you buy a VHT: for that lucious distortion tone! At our last couple of rehearsals at Ultrasound, we had the opportunity to directly compare the Pitbull 50 and the 50 MkII, which what my observations are based on. On the Original PB50, we couldn't get a good balance between the volume of the clean and distorted channels ... at maximum volume, the clean was still way lower in volume than the distorted channel.

Re: Vht

thx for the info. One real cool thing on the Valvulator Rackmount is it has 3 gain stages with a switchable 4th and stackable channels. And yeah, VHT for distortion, I'm not into clean.

Yeah, that's basically how the gain stages work. Ch 1 + 2 use V1, 1/2 and whole tube, Ch 3 + 4 use V2, 1/2 and whole tube. Same way my Engl preamp works. My Rivera head uses 4 preamp tubes, tho, and has some sick gain as well.
