Vibrato pedal haters unite!

Is there anyone else on here who hears nothing good at all coming from vibrato pedals?
Wah, phaser, flanger, chorus, delay, reverb, even tremolo I can all find much joy in, but vibrato pedals always sound annoying to me, clean or dirty.

Am I all alone on this?

And I should have added that I'm an OFR/Edge guy, so huge bends, dives, pulls and of course wide-vibrato are all way up my proverbial alley.

Tough question to answer because everyone, including manufacturers, get vibrato and tremolo mixed up. That little stainless steel arm that sticks off your Strat bridge is a vibrato, but it will be forever referred to as tremolo because Leo got it wrong. I just sold a DOD "Vibrothang" vibrato pedal thats a tremolo. Vibrato is frequency modulation and tremolo is amplitude modulation.

Is it AM or FM that you don't like?

HATER?! :/

Well. I've heard those vibrato units that sound /Glorious/. Like, the "harmonic tremolo" on rare Fender (?) amps; aswell as some analog circuits.

The digital cheap "vibrato" effect though; puts me off!

I could never live with a tremolo guitar :/. Apart from the Yamaha SA-5, 1966 nr 374; (that was stolen). It had a very special, classic sounding system. That still would let you do side-to-side classical vibrato; bends; etc. Without affecting the string tension AT ALL. :o

... too bad it was stolen. darn meth head thieves.

Kid you not; I was offered 25.000USD for the guitar- to a collector. As it was mint; with original case and all.

...last thing I heard; it was passed trough some meth dealers house; thrown behind a couch...

police won't help. The thief says "we did a trade".

...:/ poor guitar.

I have only been able to find a use for vibrato pedals in a wet/dry setup. If you put the vibrato on your wet amp and play them both together, it's really quite a nice, lush, 3D thing that happens. Other than that the pitch bending really bothers me.

'Satch Boogie' is probably the only song in guitar history where a phaser/ flanger was utilized effectively, with class.

Hendrix/Little Wing - Univibe (which is a phaser)
Robin Trower/Bridge of Sighs - Univibe
Radiohead/Paranoid Android - Phaser
Van Halen/Eruption - Phaser
Van Halen/Ain't Talkin' About Love - Phaser
Led Zep/No Quarter - Phaser
Floyd/Have a Cigar - Phaser
Isley Bros/Who's That Lady - Phaser
Police/Walking on the Moon- Flanger
Police/Every Breath You Take - Flanger
LedZep/Kashmir - Flanger
Rage Against the Machine/Killing in the Name - Flanger
Rush/Spirit of Radio - Flanger
Eagles/Life in the Fast Lane - Flanger
Kravitz/Are you gonna go my way - Flanger
Hendrix/Axis Bold as Love - Flanger
Heart/Barracuda - Flanger

I feel like there have been a few good uses of phasers and flangers . . .

Some of my favorite bands and sounds right there. I bought my first Flanger to play a cover of Are you gonna go my way lol.

One of my fave sounds is Breathe by Pink Floyd.

I've never heard a 'vibrato' pedal. Who makes one? (A real one?)

There might be a vibrato effect in my Zoom. I'll have to try it and report back. But I get all the vibrato I really need from my hands or a Bigsby or Wilkinson or Floyd.

I don't know that I hate it, as much as I just don't care about it because of tremolo fetish.

Never had a dedicated vibrato pedal either but every time I play slide I switch my DMM to vibrato mode and I think it’s great. I also had an EHX Worm and used the vibrato mode a few times. I think it’s all about using it in moderate settings.
