Vibratone

I apologize if this isn't in the right section, I couldn't figure out if this was better suited for the amps or the effects part of the forum.

Today I bought an old Leslie 16 Vibratone Cabinet for my guitar, and I have a few questions regarding it.
It seems to be totally stock, with the crossover, male and female 1/4" jacks for amp to cabinet connection, the stock speed switch, etc. The only change was an upgrade in speaker to an Electro Voice, don't know the model though. It was tested in the store and everything worked perfectly, though these questions couldn't be answered.

First, does anyone know how it should be properly maintained? How often should I get it oiled or looked at for that sort of thing?

Second, how does this cabinet affect the load on my amp? I know the upgraded speaker allows it to handle higher volumes, but I have no idea what sort of impedance I should expect with the crossover and everything. I've gotten an answer through research that it shouldn't provide any sort of load at all on my amp, but that doesn't really make sense to me for whatever reason.

Lastly, should I expect that the cabinet on will allow me to work with higher wattage amps? As in, a 4x12 with speakers that can each handle 30 Watts together can handle 120 watts (correct me if I'm wrong). So, hypothetically, if I use an amp that outputs 50 Watts, and I have a 2x12 with 25 Watt speakers, will adding this cabinet (let's say a 30 watt speaker) to the setup allow me to handle 80 watts?

Thank you all so much

Re: Vibratone

You can read the impedance off of your meter. But most guys use the Leslie as an effect, not a speaker cab that is running all the time from their main amp if you know what I mean.
Most of the time it would be mic'd. They were not really designed to be a "speaker cabinet" providing coverage to a whole Room/Venue.
Are you using this for recording, or what was your intent.?
And yes, you are right (of course) it will be a load on one amp or another
good luck

Re: Vibratone

The intent is an effect, used in conjunction with my amp and cabinet.
Done as amp->leslie->regular cab

The original speaker was replaced with a newer model with a much better power handling, so I could use it in a fairly small club un-mic'd, but my intent is to use it as an effect with it's on off switch

Re: Vibratone

I can link you the Fender/Vibratone Site if you do not have it. Just shoot me a PM. The 16 is the one with a single, front firing speaker, and a rotating baffle that moves across the front of the cone.....no crossover, no second Tweeter/Speaker.?
As far as how the power will split, that will depend on the impedance of the Leslie, all you can really do is put a meter across the speaker cable and see what it says, or just use the Ohm rating of that EV upgrade if you know it.
The total impedance will be the two cabs in parallel, and then the power will split between the speaker cab and the Leslie based on the impedance of each.
You should have some fun... trying some different configurations.....see how much the 16 projects all by itself, etc etc.
good luck
