Vibrolux RI?

Had anyone played though a Reissue Vibrolux? What do you think compared to a mid 60's? Are they worth the price? Does anyone have clips?

Re: Vibrolux RI?

Not as much vibe as the original. Not as natural a tone. Harder to work on and harder to mod too because the RI is not handwired. A nice amp...but for the same money or less you could find a '74 or earlier one and have it tweaked to perfection. Lew

Thanks Lew, I figured that you might say that. So how has your Vibrolux been treating you? I've been really obsessed with Roy's playing and tone here lately and just wanted some good insight.

Same here.. I got a couple of live performance DVD's and it has renewed my love of LeRoy Buchanan's stunning guitar work.

Re: Vibrolux RI?

There is guy on ebay named bluz-kat that has 4 different ones. I got Live in Texas Vol 2 that has Vinnie Santoro and Cary Ziegler backing him and one with his 1977 Austin City Limits show and a German show called RockaPalast where he's using a pickup band. The Live in Texas was shot by a guy with a camera, the ACL/RockaPalast show is much better quality.

The amp part is fine but I'm building a new baffle board for it. The guy who sold it to me for half of what a blackface Vibrolux is worth also enlarged one of the 10" openings and installed a 12" speaker. Thank goodness he didn't ruin the original grill cloth. I've been so swamped with the holidays and all that I haven't been able to put it all back together yet. :)

Re: Vibrolux RI?

darn, I forgot Lew got that Vibrolux ... that really torks my hide! :)

anyway, I was curious about the VL RI, and I happened to check one out when I tested an Albert Lee - made sense for a good combo
I thought it sounded fine, but I can usually get a better tone (for me) from the Bassman

I thought Evan commented that Seymour thought his new one broke up a little early. I noticed that it uses 2 Jensen P10R speakers, and they might be a little low powered for that amp, so if I got one, I'd check it out, and consider some different speakers, even if it was just the next step up - the P10Qs.

But at 40 watts with 2 10s, the VL is a nice sized gigging amp.

after all, even the SFs don't grow on trees.
