Vineham Pickups? Has anyone tried them?

I'm looking for pickups for my Les Paul. I was wondering if anyone has experience with Vineham Pickups, particularly the humbuckers, http://www.vineham.com/humbucker_pickups.html. If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

They probably aren't any better or worse than any of the other over priced boutique pickups out there.

To be fair, there listed at $160 for a set. That's honestly pretty reasonable.

To the OP, the market is flooded with pickup makers to the point that even the collective knowledge of a pickup forum can keep up with all of them. Could you tell us what you're interested in playing? Even if it's not the ones you're looking at I'm sure somebody can suggest a set for you.

So by comparison Duncan are the overpriced pickups.

Craig Vineham is a forumite that goes with the handle copperheadroads.

His recipes for HBs are as good as the others costing more than double than his.

He's also an outstanding person to deal with.

A lot of folks dont dig the Texas Specials, but the neck sound is nek level.

I have a Les Paul Traditional that came with the 57 Classic/Classic+ set. The neck I mud, and the bridge is a bit too thin for me. I play harder rock, but nothing crazy heavy. Alice in Chains is probably as heavy as I get. But, with that said, I also love to go back to classic and blues rock.

Two forum members here are winders......David Plummer from Zhangbucker and Craig from Vineham. Whilst I have not had personal experience with Craig I hear great reports from people who have had his pickups. I have had many pickups from David and have not regretted any purchase.
Both will take the time to hear what you want, and will suggest the best stock option, or wind to your asking if the stock options don't sound like they will do.

Vineham is by far the cheapest 'boutique' offering about. Although with prices cheaper than the big boys, boutique is not the right word. Zhangbucker rests about level with the average Duncan price, and his pure handwound range is cheaper than the custom shop level.


OP - I had the exact same issue with the 57's you had. My replacements were the Pagey 2 set from Zhangbucker, with a less powerful bridge pickup. Worked well for me.

Hi, I have ordered the 6070's Classics for an A.Y tone from my SG. The are video reviews easily found through Google of several of Mr. Vineham's pickups. They sound great.

I know it's an old thread but for anyone wondering, I ordered a humbucker with floyd spacing, a different magnet, and specific color and he did it all pretty quickly with no upcharge and the pickup sounded exactly as described. I would definitely buy Vineham again.

Out-of-this-planet tone paired with down-to-earth prices, plus he's a darling to deal with.

The textbook definition of a "no-brainer".

June 1, 2019 - Pickups arrived yesterday. Install them last eve. They sound great, I have yet to dial in the tone on my JMD:1 with 4X12 cab containing 2 Greenbacks and 2 Vintage 30's. But initial evaluation, they rock, noticeable difference and improvement over the 498T. Like I said, some messing around to do with tone. I also have a Fairfield Circuitry - The Accountant and a Jext Telez - Range Lord for different styles of boost.

Canadian company and buddy is real good to deal with I hear. I heard nothing but great things of them on Canadian guitar forums, people who use them seem to swear by them. I plan on getting a set soon hopefully. His prices are great too!

Sorry to bring back an old thread but I wanted to chime in. I'm from Italy and over the last 5 years I bought several sets of Vineham's pickups, from PAFs to single coils. I find them excellent and in every single case they punch way above their price. Craig Vineham is my first choice whenever I have to change pickups on any guitar, even if I have to wait a trans-oceanic shipping and possibly face custom fees. I'm probably gonna buy another strat set (the Smoking 62s) from him in a few weeks. Nice guy and exceptional pickups.
