Vintage 30 in a Blues Jr?

Hey all. I just sold my Fender Deville today since I do not need that much power at the moment and if I did I'd probably look into another amp. So now I just have my Blues Jr left and thought that i could make it sound a little better.
I know that this is a 15w amp but will putting in a 30w speaker hurt it at all? I know the Celestion Blue would be a better option since it's a 15w speaker but its kinda pricey, $250 I think. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

well, a Vintage 30 is a 60 watt speaker, but people have still used them in a B Jr

I think you have a lot of choices ... go for the tone you want, then get the speaker that fits that

A great speaker speaker will only improve the tone of your amp...not hurt it. I've used Vintage 30's and G12H30's in many 15 watt to 20 amps over the years. The Vintage 30 would be agreat choice...but the G12H30 might be a better choice because it seems to produce more bass and a thicker midrange tone in small open back cabinets like your amp has. In either case your amp will sound bigger and more powerful and you'll gain some clean headroom. It will only sound better. Lew

I dont think all 12s will fit in that tight space. Look into that too. I dont think the greenback will work

I had the G12H30 in a Blues Jr I just sold. It sounded great dirty with a Tonebone hot British or clean. I usually played it at low volumes.

It uses a 12" normally so no sweat there!

There ya go. So a Vintage 30 or G12H30 WILL fit in a Blues Jr. Sometimes there are problems though...a big magnet speaker might hit one of the transformers or a tube or something. Doesn't appear to be the case with the Blues Jr. though.

JoeBarrChord & I both have Weber Blue Dogs (ceramic) in our Blues Jr's. Love it! Strong, clear bass, plus nice chimey highs - best upgrade $$$ I ever spent.

I'd call Weber and ask about different speaker types in that amp based on what you want - they'll hook you up right. There is a speaker forum you can access from the Weber site, kinda' scarey but useful.

Also, there's the never-ending Blues Jr. Mafia thread on the FDP. More opinions than rectal apertures over there... or is it the other way around? Good resource anyway. This link is just to somewhere in the middle of the thread.
