Any of you own an Electra guitar? They are really quality made. I own this mid 70's X410 Jazz Strad. I bought it back in 86 for $135.00 with the case at a pawn shop. Last good deal to go out of there too.

Re: Vintage Electra guitars

DLT, I owned a couple of Electras in the early 80's. They were great guitars. I think they were built by the st. Louis music co. The same people that brought us Crate amps.

Re: Vintage Electra guitars

That's quite the looker now ain't she?

Apart from the beautiful flame I also especially like the inlays (different) and the transparent pickguard.
If she sounds as good as she looks then you got one hell of a deal man!

Re: Vintage Electra guitars

That is a beautiful 335 replica type guitar. Nice top on it.

I own an Electra MPC Les Paul I've had since '82. One of those that you can plug in Modules like work like pedal effects. I've never had any modules but it is a great set neck guitar for sure. Needs to be reworked a little. Someday I'll get that one going.

Re: Vintage Electra guitars

Electra Strat but the horns are trying to morph into an SG...$35.00 at a flea market and the previous owner put an USA Dimarzio Zebra HB at the bridge..Hardtail brass saddles, brass nut.....Great guitar...........

Re: Vintage Electra guitars

I own an Electra gold top Les Paul copy. Bought it new in around 1975. I've always loved the feel and action on it. I've replaced the pups with Seth Lovers and had it wired with the Jimmy Page wiring. Really cool set up IMO.

Re: Vintage Electra guitars

That's actually a nice guitar. I have seen a lot of their cheap LP styles and I wasn't impressed.

Re: Vintage Electra guitars

That is one beautiful guitar. Great deal too. How does it sound?
Like an ES 335. The pickups are not super hot output, but has descent tone. Keeping it stock keeps the value in place too.

Randy,
They were imported by The St. Loius Music Co. If I remember correctly, they were made by the Matsumoku (sp?) company in Japan. Lots of top players endorsed Electra in their day.
You are correct in saying they are great guitars bro! The neck on mine has stayed true all these years. I take her out every once in a while to play, but I keep her more as an investment rather than a player.

You have a gem! Hang on to the original pups if you still have them!

I did get it with the original hardshell case too. What you cannot see is the faux tortoise shell binding all around the body, F holes and headstock.

Yeah, I was at the right place at the right time when I bought her. This style of guitar was not real popular at the time. Everybody was buying the metal guitars with locking nuts and floyd rose whammys.

I had to go home and borrow the money from my aunt, as I was in a financial squeeze at the time. Had to wait until the next day, praying someone else would not buy it. Then I beat feet back to Grand Rapids after work. I talked the guy out of the sales tax, because I said I had to have the intoneation set and put on a new set of strings. DLT the bargan hunter! :D

Re: Vintage Electra guitars

I first remember seeing them in a music shop around 1979. This was the modular "tone cube" era, which fascinated me.

DLT, your Electra is beautiful!

Re: Vintage Electra guitars

I played an Electra just like that last year at a local store--just happened to be the wrong end of the month, LOL. But it was really nice, before then I had never seen an Electra 335.

I made up for it last week--I was out cruising thrift stores last Saturday and stopped at a store i usually don't see anything I like. I looked in their used room and back in the corner was an Electra--body painted black with a brush, but the neck was stock with little fretwear, price? $40.00.

When I took it up front to pay for it, the guy working told me it didn't work. I said, "That doesn't last long at my house." I was thinking I'd found a good place to park the P-90 I've had laying around, but after I cleaned the pots and switches, it worked just fine.

It turned out to be an x290 with two stock Magnaflux pups, and sound pretty close to P-90's stock, though I might still try my pickup if I don't need to do much carving.

Thanks, Sludge! I hear you on the tone cube era. Some of those built in effects were marvelous!
I also would like to score an Elvin Bishop model with the tree of life fretboard inlay.

A little elbow grease and you will have a jewel! Great price!

Re: Vintage Electra guitars

I saw that but I thought I would either let it be a surprise, or as you have done, let you mention it. :23: :cool2: :approve:

Re: Vintage Electra guitars

I got the Phoenix X140 with the Dimarzio made in USA Super Distortion HB added in bridge position.......Quite a steal...................Cheers
