Vintage Ibanez Blazer/Roadsters heads-up thread

Something Cool
Just thought I can as well do it. Every time I praise the old Blazers and Roadsters people have difficulty tell the cool stuff from the chaff. Just pointing out auctions and 4sale ads I like. I have no connection with the sellers. I actively encourage you to Orpheo me, I need to do gear reduction and these things are tempting.

Here is a variant of my StraBro90 Blazer, but in blue and unfortunately not with the brass trem. It has the non-brass 6-point which I never tried. But these guitars sound and play so well. Warning: 6-point trem holes not in correct spacing for vintage Fender 6-point. This one is beaten but fairly priced:

Here is one of the pretty top Roadstars in sunburst. Hacked up bridge but looks reasonable and that model can be expensive:

Roadstar body. I have a similar one and it is great sounding and takes Fender necks. Not sure whether this is from a RS405 or what, the 405 would be alder.

There is a whole bunch of Steve Lukather signature Roadstars floating around starting at $800. Those are great. The only reason not to spend $800 on them is that you can snipe them cheaper if you wait. But I have one and in all honesty, it is as good or better as my MM Axis, both being mostly the same guitar (bolt-on, non-locking trem, maple top on basswood). The pickups are the famous super 70s. Ebony board.

Its a shame to see a great guitar like that hacked like that.

Yeah. On the bright side, now you are free to just add a Callaham 6-point. I think it wouldn't look too terrible, and I'm not sure what I think about that rocker tremolo (was it a rocker, can very keep those straight?).

Yeah reminds my of my other ibanez dt50 that was converted to a floyd by a chimp. Old bridge posts where visible just like that. If you want a floyd just go buy another guitar don't ****n butcher a vintage ibanez :cussing:

Re: Vintage Ibanez Blazer/Roadsters heads-up thread

There's was a roadstar around here for $40. It just needed a few tremolo parts and pickups.

Do you know what the radius is on the fretboard of my '78 MIJ Blazer? I'm thinking 9.5" but I dunno.

Re: Vintage Ibanez Blazer/Roadsters heads-up thread

Yeah, that hacked up 1000 has been floating on and off for some time; what I'd like to know is whether these have a pretty veneer or a proper maple top (or maybe veneer over plain top?).

The various rocker trems are pretty blah, but if you don't wanna use it, just put 5 springs in and deck it, instead of doing a 'chimp' job. First there was the Hard Rocker, two variants (one with and another without locking inserts, '83-'84); then the Pro Rock'r (late '84, '85); and the Power Rocker, which came on the 100-200 series instruments, and the Holdsworth model.

Iirc, the Lukather model had a customized bridge pu (hotter). Man, I've never seen so many on the 'bay at once (there's 5 (!)) - this one is best priced: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1983-Ibanez...789?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27fed52bcd.

These are pretty cool too, quite rare. Ebony board, active pups. This particular one has been on/off eBay for at least 2 years: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ibanez-Road...159?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ee0b61db7

This is the biz, though, seen by many as a Soloist killer (bit pricey though): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-198...494?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33a1f7f316

Re: Vintage Ibanez Blazer/Roadsters heads-up thread

I had a red blazer from early 80's, maple neck, three singles coils. Got stolen a few years back. I loved that guitar so much.

Re: Vintage Ibanez Blazer/Roadsters heads-up thread

Give me a heads up if you come across a s/s/s pickguard for a blazer, or anyone who wants to trade one for a H/H pickguard.

The pickguard style that is really long toward the plug, like for a BL300? I might have a matte black one that I had made a while back.

I'm looking for a HSS pickguard for a RS405 (medium length toward plug).

This style... :)

Re: Vintage Ibanez Blazer/Roadsters heads-up thread

I noticed that there were TONS of Roadstars around lately (probaby because I bought my look-alike) usually there's 1 or 2 but everyone must be selling theirs right now.
The bodies are mostly ash/basswood/poplar with a "bent top" (mostly back wood and a thin veneer stretched over the carved back) they aren't like a Les Paul with a thick maple top (or an Epi, mahog/thick plain maple/thin fancy veneer top)
THe tremolos stink, though and aren't the same as a Fender-style trem. That's why I was searching for a hardtail (under $1K) and not that hacked up Tuna-Matic one that's always around...

Re: Vintage Ibanez Blazer/Roadsters heads-up thread

Pickguards.us wants you to send them a sample. Not that impressed.

I'll check my stock, hopefully I can do something for Kac. He sold me that MIC Les Paul many moons ago, still liking it.

The 6-point in full brass is actually top notch, as I mentioned the only bother is that screw spacing doesn't allow experimentation by swapping in Fenders.

I am pretty sure that the Lukather model and the sunburst sister in the first posts have actual carved tops. But either way, a MM Axis only has a flat veneer, too. I want to do some pickup changes on my Luke anyway, maybe I can put a CT scan in while I'm at it.

The RS405 is some Asian variant of alder. One reason why I like it so much.

1986 Roadstars have Edge trems, so if you want one with a useable locking whammy, that's the year I'd go for.

The reason all those different rocker trems were devised was in order to avoid having to get a Floyd patent.

I'd love one of these (top is a veneer). Some forum bros have them - Zakk_Speed and someone else, they're somewhere in the 'post your Ibanez' thread.

I recently found out about this funky model - the Dyuke. Japan only, very rare, hard to find information on them. Mostly 1987, I think, no doubt using up leftover neck and body stocks as Ibanez had started producing the modern RG and Jem. There seem to have been a couple of variants (mini hums, SS, HS). This HS one seems to be top of the line - ebony board, binding, shark teeth, Edge.
