Vintage Modern

Re: Vintage Modern

Funny, I put up a review on TGP

I was ok with the amp, I found it a tad mushy, though I never got to crank it. It had some JCM800 mojo in the gain, a bit glassy.

The thing that shocked me was 2 salesman, one whom I know and owns a Plexi, were very unimpressed, if not doubtful on this amp. You'd think salesmen would rave, but rather they gave me a very honest opinion.

I think the amp is fine, but I still might prefer JCM800s etc. I have a thing for late 70s 2204/s lately

You still have the Shiva, right? Then don't worry! :fingersx:

I haven't tried it yet, but will soon. I'm not jonesing to buy one, but I just wanna hear it. I'm also eager to plug into the new JVM, which looks like it'll be tighter and more modern. I'm already settled on the amps I love, but I'll always have a love of Marshalls. There's only one thing that sounds like a Marshall....and that's a Marshall.

Re: Vintage Modern

you didn't tell me it was purple when we talked about it....GO BUY IT!! just because it's purple it gets my vote hehehehe.

The one I played through was purple too, :fingersx:

I thought the amp was alright, there was just some inherent tonal character to the midrange I wasn't crazy about. Maybe it was the KT66s?

Re: Vintage Modern

Just got a copy of the Britt mag, GUITARIST, where they have a huge write-up on the new Vintage/Modern series of amps, and a CD about the amps.

Did not read the aticle yet, but what i heard on the CD realy sounded soooo good !!!

I know it is a completely diff animal, but i can not wait to hear the four channel jobbie from Marshal. Probably not my thing, but still very curious.

Getting back to the VM, i need to test this amp in person ASAP !

Re: Vintage Modern

I've always wondered if people always treat the older amp as the good ones and the new ones as crap. Fairly or unfairly....
Like in the 80s did people walk into music stores and say, man these jcm 800s really suck!

No in the 80s guys said "man, those old Marshalls suck, there's not enough Distortion!"

It's really only been since the 90s that the Vintage market got so big.

As I recall, yes, that's was the case much of the time!

Re: Vintage Modern

I havent played the JVMs, I would though if I it came about. I mean its a marshall tube amp, crank the sucker and you're off to a good start. I think it would sound good. Just because its new, doesnt automatically mean its going to suck or be so terrible.
