Vintage Peavey Score !

Hey guys, I just happened to scooped up this 1989 USA made, Bandit 112 from somebody on Craig's List yesterday for only 50 bucks. The only issue with it, is that the stem for the Post on the Gain Setting, is snapped off. I called Peavey and they were able to find a replacement which only cost me a few bucks . It should be in sometime next week and will be a easy fix. This is 80 watts and louder than hell. Very nice clean channel and from what I remember, the Gain on these were far superior to the Transtube series that came out a few years later.

Good deal !! I had the same model on loan for a while. I can't say I cared for the dirt channel much but I had a lot of fun with the clean channel. I remember coming across a Transtube combo in a rehearsal room and plugging in because I'd heard that they were good. I thought it was terrible.

Re: Vintage Peavey Score !

They are very good SS amps for sure. 50$ is a sweet deal. The cleans (from what I remember) were very very good.

Congrats!

1989 is vintage?Cripes, I must be an antique.

Congrats on the amp score.

I've told this story once before, but...

Went to see a locally (Minneapolis) well-known blues guitar player one night at a small bar. He gets there and sets up with Peavey Bandit that looks just like yours. Small pedal board with like 3 pedals or something. I'm thinking..WTF...then BAM! Awesome tone and of course super tasty licks. One of the best blues tones I've heard, live or recorded. Guitar player was Jimmy "Prime-time" Smith.

Have fun!

There was a band that I loved back in college. The dudes had an awesome recorded tone so when I saw them live for the first time I expected fancy amps and killer gear all around.

The two guitar players used one of these each + a metal-zone each.... I thought "well, they've come a long way, they probably didn't have much place in the van, blah, blah" making excuses for them. Once they started playing: exact same incredible tone they had when recording. I just couldn't believe how similar it was to the album and, sure enough, very cool tones all around.

Shows how some hidden treasures are out there and how, with good tweaking, even some pretty low-gear can yeild good tones. I, myself, could never get a MZone to sound this good...ever...

Entombed's Left Hand Path was recorded using one of those.

As was Emperor's In The Nightside Eclipse:

I was playing a black ESP six-string. It was fairly nice. We used transistor Peavey amps, because they have that really harsh black metal sound. I think I went straight into the amps, no effects. It was a simple setup. I also used Roland keyboards.

I was using a Kramer, the Peavey Bandit 112 and a Boss OS-2 Overdrive/Distortion pedal. It was a very primitive setup and there wasn’t much power, but those Peaveys had lots of distortion. Ihsahn had the higher-pitched buzz-saw sound, and I had the bottom-end buzz-saw sound. [laughs]

Re: Vintage Peavey Score !

My buddy back in high school had one of those.

We tried to start a band... him using that and I think an Epiphone SG and my rocking a Strat and 68 Bassman. Weird mix of tones.

I used to have one exactly like that. It had a lot going for it. (Well, I still have it, but let's not drift off topic.)

Re: Vintage Peavey Score !

The only piece of equipment I've sold for which I've had any later regrets is a Bandit 112S I sold to ranger.

That was a great sounding amp. The last time I played it was a test drive before shipping it. I took it to a rehearsal and the tube snob I was playing with had to check out what I was using to get that sound.:D

He was surprised.

:cool3: score, d00d.
