Vise Grip vs. Double Back

I swear I searched, but couldn't find anything. It's possible I searched poorly, though, so apologies...

But what's the difference between the new Vise Grip compressor and the old Double Back, other than the housing? The feature set seems the same.

I have one on order and I'll be able to comment on it once I put it through the paces. From looking at the description, they seem to have the same basic salient features (like the dry signal pass-through with switchable EQ filters). One big difference is that the Vise Grip is smaller and assembled in SD's USA factory.

Re: Vise Grip vs. Double Back

I didn't know about the manufacturing location difference, but otherwise yeah, that's kinda my take as well. The DB was a good pedal, so I'm happy to see it (maybe) back on the maket.

Re: Vise Grip vs. Double Back

its getting to the point where you could have a killer board made up of only SD pedals. The regular hammond sizes are great and its clear that the lessons of the past have been taken on board and the lineup has been rebuilt ground up.
I still like tap tempo and triplet functions on my delays tho, so its still either my (too big) old deja, or the tech 21 delay.

The Attack range has been increase from 3.2ms-23ms up to 2ms-50ms for one. Other spec's look the same. Source is from MF website on the old Double Back and SD's website
I would also guess they are using some of the newer design circuitry from the newer pickup booster in this one also.... that is a guess, not fact!

Speaking of SD's other pedals, I am using the Vapor Trail exclusively now, it kicked the Strymon Brig. off my board. Don't get me wrong, I still like the Brigadier, its just the Vapor works better for me at the moment.
This new line is interesting. I get the feeling SD wanted more control of the manufacturing and design process for QC in this line of pedals. The first attempt was a grand effort to make pedals no one else had or thought of, and they were in some cases, from a design standpoint...overly complicated circuitry wise. I also think this is a smarter, more caring effort on SD's part to bring the pedals it originally envisioned to us in a form factor we are more at ease with.

Re: Vise Grip vs. Double Back

I only have a couple of other SD pedals, but one of them, the Shape Shifter, is the absolute last Tremolo I will ever need. I've yet to think of anything I wanted it to do that wasn't quickly and easily available.

The other is the Tweak Fuzz and really, the less said about that the better. At least it was on sale.
