Which of these 5 pots would i need to get for a bridge HotRails and neck JB Jr.???? I need a 500k for each, so i need 2 pots. Audio or linnear taper?? Short or long?? What is push/pull?? HELP!
500 Ohm Audio Taper/Short Shaft is the one your gonna want, a push pull is a little switch in a pot that allows you to pull on it to activate or deactivate something, and when it's pushed it does the opposite, it is basically a 2 way switch in a pot

Re: Volume Pot question!!!

Audio taper = when knob is turned halfway (50%) 15% of the signal is going through. As you complete the turn, the remaining 85% is "released". This is supposed to sound natural to humn ears.
Linear taper = when knob is turned halfway (50%) 50% of the signal is going through. As the turn is completed, the remaining 50% is "released".

Push pull usaually referrs to a switch built into the pot. Used mostly for coil splitting on humbuckers, ie knob down humbucking mode, knob up single coil mode.

As for which resistance, I would'nt know for your application, but I'm sure there's many knowlegable people here who can help.

Hope the info was helpfull (and accurate!)

So i need 2 Audio Taper regular pots?? Those will work?
depends, what are you doing with the hot rails and jb jr.? i assume it's in a stratocaster, and if your just puting the pickups in, then you dont need new pots... but if your replacing all of the pots, you need to buy however many your guitar currently has. so if your planning on puttin those 2 pickups in your guitar and want a 500k pot tone, you should replace your tone AND volume pots, if you dont, the difference in pots values will have an adverse effect on the pot value

Re: Volume Pot question!!!

Also usually, linear taper for volume and audio taper for tone. But personal preferance always prevails!

well, technically, not all pot brands and manufactures use the same audio taper, but you get the idea

Re: Volume Pot question!!!

Thanks for the help, I am playing Iron Maiden. No phase shifting or coil splitting needed here. So just 2 regular short taper 500k pots is what i shall get. Thanks.

From what I understand this is the logarithmic formula that most maufacturers use.

Maiden, Nice! I got a chance to see them again a few years ago here in NJ. First time I saw them was the Number tour.(showing my age abit) Rock on!

Re: Volume Pot question!!!

Yeah, my guitar is exactly a hybrid between Jannick and Dave's.... haha i LOVE those guys. I could rant on about it all, put this IS the pickup section.

Re: Volume Pot question!!!

Did you ever play one of the "Maiden" strats fender came out with a few years ago?

Re: Volume Pot question!!!

Nah, but mine is even more accurate than the singature.... haha. The signature has a mirrored pickguard while Dave Murray has a pearloid pickguard (which i have.) The signature has a JB Jr. in the bridge position (the pickups Jannick Gers uses) but Jannick plays in the neck position exclusively. It has 2 hot rails for the middle and neck (Dave Murray's pickups) but Dave plays almost exclusively in the bridge position. So i have Hot Rails in bridge and middle, and JB Jr. in neck to immulate their sounds. My guitar is white, with rosewood fretboard (Gers has a guitar looking exactly like that.) And I got all of this for around $700, and it is a 1989 strat. It has all new pickups and electronics though, so i have a more accurate model than the signature for $200 less. And I have a guitar that nobody else in the world has (most likely) which is cool. Oh yeah mine is an American as well, the Maiden signature is a Japanese.
