VooDoo amps

Re: VooDoo amps

i'll keep you updated b/c i too don't like the tone of my marshall lol (well any marshall actually) i'm a mesa guy (but i also like my peavey ultra plus alot!) as i told trace and i want to see if he can make this little marshall not sound completley mesa (i don't even know if that can be done) but i want more low end like a mesa more gain/distortion like a mesa and less focus on the mid range like a typical marshall is to my ears at least....i just want it to shake the house when i play some heavy palm muted chords hehehe. i don't know a better way to describe what i want but i think thats the rough idea of some of the things.

Re: VooDoo amps

well i just got an e-mail back from Trace at voodoo about my '79 JMP and he is for sure the man that will be making my sissy little JMP into a fire breathing metal monster hehehe. i have never gotten such a nice e-mail that answered each and every one of my questions in an informative and very polite way from any company i have ever delt with. Trace seems to be a real nice stand up cool guy....my amp will be going to him for sure to get modded!! also i mentioned some duncan forum members sent me his way and here is what he wrote in my e-mail....

From Trace...
Please give our sincere thanks to those who mentioned us on the Duncan forum. There are some great guys who hang out and participate in that forum
:)

thanks for pointing me to Trace by this post the guy who invented fire and those who said good things about him. you just saved my amp from collecting dust!

Re: VooDoo amps

I've owned two voodoo modded JCM 800 2204's with Hex mods, and both kicked ass!! Trace makes great sounding stuff, and is a real cool guy too.

Many thanks and I'm glad you dig the Hex 2204, as always if you need anything what so ever please do not hesitate to ask or call the shop. We're always here for you my friend. Please tell the family we said hello! :)

Have a great weekend

Re: VooDoo amps

While it's doubtful I will own a Voodoo......(since we do the same thing...modify/build amps...)...I gotta say that Trace is by far the absolute most class act I have probably ever encountered in quite some time...definitely worth checking into!!!!!!

We are going to hook up sometime in the near future my friend (I promise--ha, ha). Do you happen to go to the South By South West show in TX? It looks like we will be attending but we will not have a booth. If you are going to be there I would love to hook up, talk shop, hang out and have some fun! :)

To everyone else; Jeff is a killer tech and an amazingly great person. We've sent numerous people Jeff's way and he's great at what he does (sincerely).

Be good brother Jeff and I hope all is well down in Texas!! :)

Re: VooDoo amps

I own a 2 channel Dual rectifier and love it. Trace hooked it up with a ton of mods. He let me borrow a old PA modified to be a witchdoctor. It kicked ass but I was in love with my rectifier and broke after my car breaking down in Ithaca. Trace took me to the Kid Rock concert the next day, Got in free and backstage and they played my amp and are now dealing with Trace. Cool as hell and very knowledgable. Get it Voodoo modded ASAP. Check out their cords too as they are the best I have ever heard.

Thanks for the kind words Rob, I hope the Mrs had a good time at the Kid Rock show? We still have a pair of shoes kicking around that she left here (ha, ha). Be good and we can't wait for you to come and check out the new shop!

Tell the Mrs we said hello!

Voodoo Labs designs effects and we focus on all tube guitar amps. We've had the same name and website (www.voodooamps.com) since 1998. If there is a Voodoo Amps Designs then I would be curious to know what year they established their business.

There was a gentleman in England that had emailed asking if i was ok to use the name Voodoo Amps. We refused to give him permission to do so stating that it would be very confusing the the public and would mislead people to believe they would be doing business with us. This all took place approximately a year or so ago and we have saved all the emails. Again we've been established since 1998 and I am no aware of any other Voodoo Amps aside from us.

Re: VooDoo amps

Trace,

nice to see you on the forums and as i said in my e-mail i let the guys know you said "hi" in my above post. also, don't think i forgot about getting my JMP modded because i wan't to do it 100% but i just need to get up the cash and stop buying other guitars hahaha. Also, it's a fairly large investment for something i'm not sure would be my main amp (all depends on the sound as usual) so i have to prioritize a bit...but it WILL get done down the road by you! thanks again for all your help and time!

Re: VooDoo amps

All I wanna know is...can I get one of the V-plex's in a 25 watt output? Those sound clips sound killer, but I'd like less than 50 watts...no power brakes please (hehehe).

Re: VooDoo amps

Glad to see ya decided to stop by Trace :D

Soon enough I'll be setting up a drop in appt to get either my 1987X or F-50 taken care of (I emailed you a week or so ago about them)

Sure, we've done several for people. We use 6V6 power tubes and it gives you about 25 watts so you should be good to go.

Those sound clips sound killer, but I'd like less than 50 watts...no power brakes please (hehehe).

No worries on the power brake (understood--ha, ha) and we would be happy to hook you up with a 25 watt V-Plex. Give us a call at the shop when ever you are ready my good sir. Time for us to close the shop for the day (ha, ha)

Have a great evening!

Thanks so much Jeff, I sinecerly appreciate it.

Oh very cool, we would love to have you come by the shop. As long as you do not want the Mesa into a Marshall type of amp we can mod that for you (we get that request a lot--ha, ha). We mod tons of the 1987X amps and as long as you are not asking for an fx-loop we should be able to accommodate you (ha, ha).

Give us a call when you can Jeff - take good care!!

Well damn..I thought you guys were miracle workers ;) :D

Nah. I love the tone of the MESA as is. I would like to get that adjustable bias put in though so I could run some EL-34s to make it sound a bit more "british" when the power tubes start to break up, but not looking to turn it into a Marshall.Basically what you guys do with the Rectifiers (based on your clips) is what I'm looking at...a bit less fizzy on top ;) although truthfully the F series are not 1/10 as fizzy as a Recto, at least to my ears.

Wasn't seriously considering an FX loop, but good to know as I had thot of it. I'd prolly just go with your standard mod if I end up modding it instead of the MESA.

Give us a call when you can Jeff - take good care!!

Will do Trace, as soon as I get settled from my move  And you take care as well. Again, thanx for stopping by. Good folks here, and always glad to see more of the same :)

No thanks is ever needed my good sir :) Some of the best guys on the net hang out here and there's a lot to be said for that.

Stop down when you can, we have a brand new shop and we would love to have you come down! We would love to attain one of those amazing guitars that you make and we will use at the shop or take it to trade shows. Other people need to experience your amazing work :)

Hope to see you soon!
