Voodoo Lab Giggity

I know I might be late to the party on this one but I picked up a VL Giggity recently and I have to say...while I know this box won't be something for everybody it is a super cool and unique unit with a lot of cool tones inside.

It is not a transparent boost in any way so if that's what you want just stop reading here! However in addition to huge tonal changes it can be set to be fairly subtle if that's what you want.

The Giggity is more of a unit to transform your guitar into something different...a unit to transform your amp into a different amp or something to just shape your tone into something different and/or more useful than it is right now.

The tone shaping ability with the Giggity is pretty amazing plus it does have built in grit....it's not just a EQ, you can get some cranked amp grind form it and best of all it stacks like no other pedal I have ever tried...you can run Overdrives, boosters, distortion or fuzz pedals into the Giggity w/o loosing the character of the pedal you're stacking while benefiting from the EQ section and/or grit from the Giggity.

Really a great addition to you rig if you want another completely different sound or if you want to maybe tweak your existing sound a bit.

Re: Voodoo Lab Giggity

You can do it either way and it does make a difference...

If you wanted to make your guitar signal fatter or thinner or more gain-ey going into a dirt box or boost pedal then put it close to the guitar but if you put it after your OD or boost pedals then you're using the Giggity more like a preamp or second amp channel.

So far I'm liking it best at the end of the chain...I've got just a very simple little test chain up right now (I never test pedals on my board or in a full rig until I am familiar with them) the test chain is a Fuzz Face, wah-wah, Pork Loin (set is a slighly gritty boost), an Aqua Puss then the Giggity.

Right now I am using the Giggity to make my old Fender Deluxe sound very fat and crunchy...I was shooting for a tone sort of like Ron Wood used to get on the old Faces records...I'm actually pretty close considering that Ron was using MUCH bigger amps that he was running WAY up and I'm doing it all at bedroom levels!!!

Thanks for the review...I have watched a few videos of the pedal and have been intriqued by it also..

Re: Voodoo Lab Giggity

It's a very unique pedal...I've never played anything quite like it.

It is amazing for those edge of breakup tones so many classic albums are FULL of...and between the 45 position switch plus added BODY and AIR controls you can get all kinds of tones ranginG from Fenderish to Marshallesq, Vox like and even other more odd tones like the fudgy roar of an old Ampeg!

Plus the stack-ability of the Giggity makes it a useful tool because you can add dirt of boosts on top of that foundation sound for a huge palate of sounds.

I've got one on my board. I run it after my dirt pedals (FD2 and Skreddy Screwdriver) and before delay. Running clean I use it to make my 65 Amps Memphis (think Deluxe Reverb with an EF86 in the preamp) sound a bit more "Marshally". It's great for copping that EJ/Bonamassa cranked, fat Marshall grit.

With an OD pedal on it smooths them out and makes them sound more natural and less like a pedal. I usually set it to be slightly darker than my base tone with a slight volume boost. It's basically dialed in to be a lead boost, but it can do many many other things.

It's pretty useful to tweak the plugged-in tone of my acoustic, too.

Re: Voodoo Lab Giggity

I am very, very tempted. Reviews and demos look awesome.

I could see myself using this as an effect to make me pop out of the mix a bit more, or even as an always on buffer/preamp.

Re: Voodoo Lab Giggity

I've used it to bring the output level of my tele with single coils up to match that of my P90 guitar, too.

Re: Voodoo Lab Giggity

Will it help my Class 5 sound more like a Superlead?

Semi serious question. I know it wont ever sound just like a superlead, but rather will it do a better job in shaping the amps nature than using "amp in a box" pedals for that old plexi tone?

Re: Voodoo Lab Giggity

It's a very cool unit guys!

I do want to give it a shot on a "plugged" acoustic just to see.

I'm loving it stacked with low gain drives...makes me want to try the Sparkle Drive MOD just to see how they pair for me!

Class 5 + Giggity...dunno...It can add a little gain, a little girth, a little overall bigness.

It's worth a shot, thats for sure!

Re: Voodoo Lab Giggity

I'm looking to add something to my sound that's hard to put my finger on what it really is... I need a bit more 3D to my tone, I feel that it is a little 2 dimensional.

Was looking into a maestro EP-3 preamp clone but then there is the Giggity.

Do Giggity users ever feel like it added a sort of 3rd dimension to their sound?

Re: Voodoo Lab Giggity

It is more like a preamp but it's sort of made to interact with the front end of your amp.

I mean I'm sure it would work and might give "good" results but it's really supposed to work your amps front end.

The advantage of a loop most often is it cuts down on noise and the Giggity is SO quite I can't see noise being an issue for anyone.

Re: Voodoo Lab Giggity

Another thing I just noticed which is too cool!

When using a battery once the battery gets low the LED blinks to let you know you have a limited time of life left!!!
