VooDoo Lab Microvibe vs. MXR Univibe. Anyone?

Hey there, did a search, but,
Could not find a post or thread directly comparing those 2. I have and like the Microvibe, but the MXR Univibe "seems" more like the real thing when I saw a clip from NAMM. I am not able to compare the 2 myself and ask here first before going into "the youtube zone". Save me.
Thanks,
Steve Buffington

Re: VooDoo Lab Microvibe vs. MXR Univibe. Anyone?

I tried out the MXR Univibe last week at Sam Ash, it sounded great but I would hold off on buying one for a while. The one I tried sounded good but the affected signal kept getting cut, meaning one minute it's there, the next the pedal is still engaged but the effect signal is gone. Also when I switched to vibrato mode, when I turned the level up to where the signal could actually be heard, the pedal started producing a high-pitched squealing noise. I don't know if it was just a defect pedal that I played but these two issue's really turned me away from the pedal. If you really want a vibe pedal try out the Danelectro Cool-Cat Vibe, I ended up getting that $40 pedal over the Mini Deja-Vibe.

The new MXR??

The newest MXR is just a modded/tweaked phase shifter and the VL is a true vibe circuit.

IMO the VL Micro Vibe is the best budget vibe out there today.

Re: VooDoo Lab Microvibe vs. MXR Univibe. Anyone?

I just read in a review of the new Univibe RI pedal from Korg, that the photocells that have always been used in Univibes and their clones are now banned by the Euro regulations. It said that is why the new Korg pedal using something different than the old photocells, and may be why some of the other companies making Vibe clones are doing the same thing. Anyone have any further knowledge of this?. It's the first time I have heard about it. If this is true, it means that the companies making true Univibe clones with the photocells would not be able to sell in Europe, I guess.

Funnyman, inventedfire, & Zombiwoof,
Very good information. Thank you. Think I'll stick to my MicroVibe and Danelectro for 40 bucks-if it sounds good, that is straight out a steal.
Steve Buffington-Thanks again!

Yeah, the Micro Vibe is the best option if you want a true Vibe circuit. And there is definitely a difference. The modded phasers don't seem to get the low end throb right.

Re: VooDoo Lab Microvibe vs. MXR Univibe. Anyone?

I've got one of the new small Univibes on my current pedalboard, but I'm still in the getting-to-know-you phase with it. I also just put a Big Joe phaser on there last night to give a test drive. Seems very capable and well-made. Not sure that I need both though. Will probably end-up keeping the Univibe and taking the Big Joe back. But I'll give it a few days to plead its case.

Back when the Voodoo Lab came out, I bought one and really liked it. It just has a musical sound to it. I then swapped it out for a gold Fulltone Deja Vibe, and almost thought I made a mistake, because while the Fulltone is authentic, the Voodoo Lab had a more dramatic swirl to it that I liked.

For what it's worth, I've found one I like the most, but it's harder to find and expensive.......T Rex Viper.

I like the MXR M68. Thank you. Good night.

Re: VooDoo Lab Microvibe vs. MXR Univibe. Anyone?

just digging up an old thread.
I bought a microvibe.
Its great. really warm and thick.
I prefer it to my old fulltone one even tho its got more switches and stuff and looks much better.
The other big plus is that the voodoo lab runs on a 9v battery as well as being much smaller.
just thought id throw in my 2c for anyone doing a search for univibes.

Interestingly, I did a similar thing! I have a Captain Coconut which is amazing, but enormous and requires AC. The older Dunlop with real photocells sounds better to me than the Mojovibe and Dejavibe, but again is enormous and requires AC.

I was debating the Drybell and Earthquaker Depths (both small, photocell and 9VDC with a ton of tweakable sounds) but I got a used Microvibe for a small fraction of the cost of those two pedals.

I love the sound of a real Uni-Vibe, but I use it so infrequently on my board that something smaller and cheaper won out for me.
