Voodoo Pickups in my new tele.

As requested here are my first impressions of the voodoo te50's pickups.

I had to adjust them for my amp which took a little while but once i got them dialed in, just slightly lower than peter suggests, they now have a great sound. I was a little worried about alnico 5 magnets in these pickups with a body that is very light weight, but since they are over wound to about 9.5k for the neck, and 10K for the bridge they have a nice tone which compliments the body of the guitar very well. The over winding took care of some of the harsh highs i was worried about. They have a very nice tone to them which sounds very much like some old teles i have heard on recordings.

In my other teles i have a set of antiquities and a set of texas specials, the texas specials are okay the antiquities are amazing and the voodoo pickups are right up there with the antiquities, though they sound like you took them from 1950 something and brought them forward in a time machine. Very different sounds from the antiquities and the voodoos but both equally as good. the voodoos have a little more sparkle, the ants are smoother. the voodoos can get a little more rude sounding through my soldano, think jimmy page with a tele. all in all they great pickups and i won't be getting rid of my antiquities any time soon.

oh yeah, one more thing. the voodoos are not rwrp from each other which creats some interesting sounds.

Re: Voodoo Pickups in my new tele.

Thanks Scott. Are the Voodoos alnico 2 or alnico 5?

I was surprised that the Antiquity I Teles are alnico 2 because I don't think any 50's Tele pickups were really alnico 2!

(Even though the alnico 2 Antiquities do sound like some of my favorite early 50's pickups: more mids.)
