Re: VOTE: '59/Custom Hybrid NECK Pickup!

'59 neck and a Jazz bridge...Yes! Not interested if they're both bridge coils or both neck coils. The '59/Custom hybrid has a huge mismatch between coils (7K vs 4.1K, different wire gauges, etc), which is where it's magic comes from. For a neck hybrid to pair with it & have some of that magic, there should also be a significant differences in coils, at least 10% in resistance.

My main interest in making hybrids of my own is for the neck slot, to get more clarity and dial down mids and mud. Using coils like a '59B with a '59N, an A2PB with a '59N, SethN with a '59B, etc. That brings out the unbalanced coil magic.

I gotta get ballsy enough to try that sometime.
Neck humbucker is always my achilles heel. I want more clarity without all the lows, and match up with a warm bridge bucker.
So far 59 is my favorite, but could use a touch more oomph. Was thinking of tying a bridge there, but a 59n with someother coil might be cool..like a PG or maybe something hotter to offset.

Re: VOTE: '59/Custom Hybrid NECK Pickup!

If you want more clarity and less low, you can use a mini humbucker.

They don't quite have the magic you get from the exaggerated coil mismatch of two different coil winds, though. This is why all the current production neck pickups fall short.

Re: VOTE: '59/Custom Hybrid NECK Pickup!

I like hybrids a lot but I think if someone doesn't want the neck humbucker obesity and wants a focused sound, minis are a superior design.

Re: VOTE: '59/Custom Hybrid NECK Pickup!

I'm all for the idea (especially the 59 neck coil and Jazz bridge coil part), but I'd like to add that it would be easier to just call it the "Hybrid neck model" than a "59/J".

I'd like to see the results of a Sentient - Full Shred hybrid.

Re: VOTE: '59/Custom Hybrid NECK Pickup!

Guys thank you for the back up in this! Like you I love the Hybrid and am running the sentient with mine which I also love in it's own right. However the Sentient even as good as it is still does not have the harmonic complexity of the Hybrid. Many have lamented Duncan seemingly not listening to us on this and thanks to Micer giving me a course of action I took that action. Still without you guys adding your voice to the chorus would have gone no where by myself I fear. Thanks and this is how you get things DONE working together so all you guys who backed me up here give yourselves a hand!!

Re: VOTE: '59/Custom Hybrid NECK Pickup!

I haven't come across anyone that's tried the Screamin Demon in the neck with the Hybrid 59/C bridge - I would suspect the harmonics and output might be a good match!?
Unfortunately, with all the pickup's I DO have, I dont have a fullsize humbucker Screamin'Demon! I'll have to add it to my want list! :knockedou

Re: VOTE: '59/Custom Hybrid NECK Pickup!

Many ages ago, I had an Explorer with a Jazz bridge in the neck with a Screaming Demon and I felt it did a good job at the time. Years later, I have to ask myself, "How would a Jazz bridge in the neck compliment a 59/C?"

This statement simply doesn't apply if you follow the laws of physics, I'm afraid. Std HB vs. mini-HB, design-wise, it's actually the opposite.

What does "focused sound" mean anyway? Please, explain. Like it's stated, it doesn't really have meaning.

Voted and definitely want to see this happen. 59/Custom is very special pickup that deserves a matching neck bucker!
