Vox Ad30vt owners?

Re: Vox Ad30vt owners?

There's six different amp models in terms of distortion. It has everything from a light crunch to a scream from Satan himself. It's a great amp in all aspects.

Re: Vox Ad30vt owners?

The Valvetronix amps are incredibly good for highgain, but also cleans and in between tones. DO NOT buy a combo though. Get the AD60 or 120 head and use it on a high quality cab. That's the only way the amp can have the benefit of sounding as good as a tube amp.....since the cabs and speakers from Vox are nowhere near the sound of a high end cab. Another thing you've got to do is use the OD models in conjunction with the gain control.....on all the models, including clean ones.

The Blackface and AC-15 and AC-30 models are best for clean, the Tweed 4-10 and Brit 70's are the best for midgain, and the Recto, Brit 90's, and Boutique highgain are the best for highgain. Always use one of the 3 OD models to add definition and gain to all the models, and you'll be amazed at the tones you can get. Make sure to get the head version.

I agree. If you can, buy the head and a good cab. If you ignore us and buy a combo, be prepared to buy a cab to use with the combo to make it sound great. And change that tube.

Re: Vox Ad30vt owners?

I've got the 30 combo and it sounds great. Maybe a head version with a cab would be an improvement, but it seemed like overkill for my living room. I think they do well for distortion. The 30 has a couple less models than those 60 heads, but I use the uk 70's, 80's, and US high gain mostly. I can cover AC/DC to hair metal to Disturbed with those 3. I also use the vox models often, and the blackface 4x10 a little.

75les, what tube did you change to?

Re: Vox Ad30vt owners?

First I used the GT 12AX7-M, but it fried on me in like a month or so. Then I got the JJ and it's been great. Sounds just as good as the Mullard copy. Contact Bob at Eurotubes and he'll recommend the right one.

Good tricks to get that tube out by the way are to first remove the black ring around it and then use either spark plug pullers or packing tape wrapped around the tip of the tube, pulling gently while you wiggle back and forth.

The AD30VT is a fine sounding amp on its own, but if you hook it up to a cab (if you can, not sure) it should sound better. That's what a Vox rep said anyways. The models in the Silver grill series and the blue grill series are the same, but the cab and speaker is what makes them sound better in the blue series. When I had just the combo I swapped in a Vintage 30 and the amp sounded so much better. I then got a 2X12 cab and put the original neo-dog back in the combo and put the V30 along with a G12H30 in the cab and the mixture of the three speakers is just perfect--to my ears anyway!

Hope this helps a little.

Re: Vox Ad30vt owners?

Yeah that helped, with my GAS for a VTX!!!:smack: I have been seriously looking at them lately, but I'm still stuck on the combo since even though a cab and head would surely sound better, it would end up being another piece of furniture in the living room, which I don't need. The amp guru at the local music store is a tube snob, and a professional, so maybe I shouldn't say "tube snob", but he also said the V30 is the speaker for the VTX series.
