Thanks for all the replys on my last post. I have narrowed it down to the
Vox DA5 or Micro Cube. Can anyone give me pros or cons for both of them. I play blues, classic rock, some metal. And have a strat. and Ibanez sz520. I have been racking my brain on which one to buy . Thanks for your help.

Re: Vox DA5 or Micro Cube

I missed your last post, are you specifically looking for an ac/dc powered amp? If not, IMHO, for not much more($40 to 50) you could get the Vox AD15VT Valvetronix which tonally is far superior than the two you listed. I've got one myself to sit by my recliner and use as a practice amp and it's a smoker. I love it as much as my 18 watt.

Here's what amps are being modeled on the Vox:

Dumble Overdrive Special Clean
Dumble Overdrive Special Dirty
'59 Fender Bassman
Fender Twin Reverb
Vox AC 15
Vox AC 30 Top Boost
'71 Marshall 50 watt Plexi
'83 Marshall JCM 800 100 Watt
Marshall DSL JCM2000 100 Watt
Mesa Rectifier of some sort
Soldano SLO 100

Are they accurate, who knows....but they do sound great. It does have a headphone/line out so you won't wake the baby and a decent selection of adjustable modulation fx.

to me, the DA5 has more projection clarity. the switchable wattage feature gives it various voicings at higher volume settings. not saying the microCUBE's a dud, it's equally appealing but the DA5 does better.

Re: Vox DA5 or Micro Cube

Just my opinion....

The vox sounds a little better on the clean models, and maybe a TINY bit more authentic (tubey). The Cube is better on the heavier drive models and the effects are not as preselected and limited to which you can mix with which.
I ended up buying the Cube because I have a bigger Vox Ad30vt and was a little tired of the same old model sounds and limited ways to mix the effects.

I think they are both great little practice amps! I wish I had had an amp that did half what these do when I was first learning to play.
