Vox Valvetronix AD30VT Damage?

Ok so my Vox AD30VT I let my sister barrow for several months right? she cranked it at band practices and lugged it around in her car and as long as it was sitting in my room at the end of the day I did'nt care...

Well a few months back we were car pooling to work since we have the same job...and it was the first decent snow and she lost control on some ice and we slid into the concrete median @50mph...

she was fine, and myself i took the rearview mirror off with my head and had a decent concussion...

which led me to lay down the guitar because i basically felt seasick/hunbgover on and off for a month or so...

Now the vox was in the backseat during the accident...and after i turned it on and made sure it was ok...but not until recently did i crank up the JCM800 model and it kinda fizzles out SPL wise...

it seems like the saturation and loudness just goes away past a certain volume....

Local amp techs charge so much to even open a amp...

Ideas on what i could do toi fix this...I doubt its just the tube...

Why doubt it's the tube without testing it? It could easily have been damaged in the collision.

Re: Vox Valvetronix AD30VT Damage?

my thoughts exactly but i just dont want to get my hopes up..

any suggestions on a new tube? I hear it doesnt see much voltage anyways...

a gold pin JJ?

Re: Vox Valvetronix AD30VT Damage?

Got a quick deal at guitar center today on a Groove Tubes 12AX7R...not bad for $10 even if it is a sovtex rescreened...

took it apart and the same as when we put a RI mullard in my buddies AD50VT it was hard as hell to get the tube out and the new one in...

initial impression is that its a hellva lot quieter than the old tube was when cranking the Soldano model with the atteunator set at 0.1 watt...

but since its 2am here I cannot crank it up and see if the problems are solved...

*fingers crossed* ill let you guys know whats up tomarrow....

also got to give it a good cleaning and armorall on the toltex...it looks brand new again...

I love the JCM800 model!!!

I hate that amp. I don't know how you can stand it. Consider this a blessing :)

Goodluck with the repairs.

Re: Vox Valvetronix AD30VT Damage?

why do you hate it?

well it didnt fix the problem...but i find if dial back the wattage control to where there is no hiss the signal without a guitar plugged in. then dial in my patches and use the noise gate to remove just the evident noise from the line.

That I don't get the problem happening ever...must be a loose connection that comes and goes when the SPL goes up?

now i have a great albeit not as damn loud but for the AD series its a superquiet recording situation and practice amp....

with my Agile... CH1 is a warm and clean Twin with Vibrato & Reverb and CH2 is the JCM 800 put just into crunch with Reverb as a effect...

I am so proud of these patches...and the 12ax7r adds some mpre top end grit and saturation over the stock EH russian tube...

not all is lost...just can crank it up...but its gets pretty noisey when you do that anyways...but i have a great little amp still when dial'd for bedroom demos and practice.

I had the same problem dude.On my AD50 valvetronix, i had the same "loose fizzy" sound after pushing it!I changed the tubes ,try to play it quiter and whatnot.
My problem is solved as i changed the Speaker!Yeah right the speaker. Now i have an Eminence Governor ,and the Marshall Models Shine! No fizzy top ,no loose bottom. In your face tone!

Bahh, those Gt 12ax7R tubes are the worst tubes i have ever used. get the ECC83s or 12AX7M, the R's just push anything. Makes my amp about half as loud

Re: Vox Valvetronix AD30VT Damage?

no...ke my ampliterally shorts out and looses its overall output and tone and just turns to a muffled ****fest once you get to a certain loud SPL...

i thought about putting a ramrod or coperhead or rajin cajun in here before this issue...

but im not turning a $200 amp into a money pit...
