Vox Valvetronix Video & Appreciation Thread

Re: Vox Valvetronix Video & Appreciation Thread

That guy was an INSANE player.

And I really like the Vox Valvatronixes, I sometimes wonder why I didn't get one.

Re: Vox Valvetronix Video & Appreciation Thread

Something a little heavier from the AD100VTH. It's a one-take, highly un-produced recording, but you get the general idea. (Check the clip titled "Same Old Song and Dance (main riff)."

kind of strange that the 50 watt 1-12" doesn't appear to be able to have an extension cab used with the internal speaker at the same time. only one or the other at a time according to the manual. that kind of screws my master plan for a 2-12" set up from a 1-12" combo and 1-12" extension cab. oh well.

Ahh, rest easy. They came out with a 50 watt 2x12" model this year. :) There's also a 100 watt 2x12" model.

My older bro is getting back into guitar and playing with a band of old guys doing classics. He needed a decent amp for cheap so I picked him out an AD50. The amp rocks plain and simple. I'm not sure you can get anything better for the price. I want one for my practice room because a Champ and pedals will only take you so far. haha

I really need to get rid of the condo and get a house so I can crank my gigging amps.

Re: Vox Valvetronix Video & Appreciation Thread

I've got the AD60VTX and with a tube and speaker change it's much better. Definitely keep it off the floor! I got an Earcandy Buzzbomb 2X12 and loaded it with a V30 and G12H30 and kept the stock speaker in the Valvetronix. Wow! Killer. If I had it to do again, I would probably just buy the head, but I really dig my 3X12 setup.

Re: Vox Valvetronix Video & Appreciation Thread

I've never used the 30 or 50 watt ones, but the 15 watt and 100 watt heads are sick!

Re: Vox Valvetronix Video & Appreciation Thread

I run my 120 watt stereo VTH 120 head through both a Marshall 4x12 with V30s and a Vox Valvetronix 2x12 cab with V30s.All I can say about the tone is WOW!

Re: Vox Valvetronix Video & Appreciation Thread

What do you mean?

he means FROGET IT.

I think hes saying you couldnt get those tones at bedroom volumes..

Im going to a guitar store today and am hoping to play one...probably a 50 or the biggest one there most likely..lol

Re: Vox Valvetronix Video & Appreciation Thread

i own the AD 50 and it ripps. My band mate really beggs me to turn my midds down ,cause he can't cut through.and he plays a Marshall JCM 900 50 with 160 cab!!!
The gain knob is the most i portant thing on teh AD50!You can just create so many great tones.
Offcourse it's not a Cornford or Soldano. But it's damn great in any level.Does not well with all stompboxes or multi-effect devices. But it's a great device with good options and killer tone.I played the 100 watt head with 4x12 matching box lately.Man it was awesome. The lead tone (soldano model) with ibanez weeping demon ...I just played ther for 30 minutes.Great thing!I am looking for a used DA5...to carry it with me!

Re: Vox Valvetronix Video & Appreciation Thread

i sold mine. It didn't sound nearly that good.

that probably means i suck much more than that guy

That may be true, but one of the great features with this amp is that you can play at bedroom levels and gigging levels, and at each level you've got a variety of high-quality tones at your disposal. Certainly, the higher you crank the power and master volume, the richer the tone. Nonetheless, I've never had an amp play so sweetly at bedroom levels as well.

ah, well that's what I was talking about! a 50-ish watter with an extension cab capability. i didn't know about the different "X" line with the ohms switch. look like I may be finding my current ideal amp.

Yeah, I love it. Stratdeluxer97 and a few others like Jumpmarine and Gearjoneser really steered me in the direction of the Valvetronix and personally, I just clicked with the amp. I can get picky so there's a few sounds I don't like, but there sure are a lot that I do. The ohms switch is freaking great. It starts at 1 or five, I forget which, then 15,30,60. This one doesn't cut off the internal combo speaker, but the ohms are added together instead of cut in half. In other words, it's an internal 8 ohm speaker. I hooked it up to an 8 ohm cab, so you set the ohms to 16 on the amp.

I also have a Line 6 Vetta, and while they are similar in that they have different amp models and effects, I think they are really two different animals that do different things better. IMHO, the Vetta's chorus is much better. Just my taste. The Vetta is way louder, if that's what you need BUT needs to be pretty loud to really sound good. Not the Vox. Granted, it sounds better loud, but still sounds good on quite a few patches on low volume. The Line 6 I feel sounds better at metal and death metal patches, and clean patches with lotsa effects like chorus, pitch shifter, reverb, delay. The Vox does Vox and Fender cleans REALLY well and I got it to clone my 65 Champ about 90% side by side. Funny, but the patch I had to use to do that was the 410, Bassman, not the Champ model :laugh2:

I can't speak for the metal grill series as I've never owned one, but a Vox representative emailed me and said the electronics are the same in the metal and blue grill amps. The cabs are different. The blue cloth grill combo really opens up with an extension cabinet as well. However, all by itself I used it at band practice a few times. We play in a tiny all cinderblock room and the other guys have the Marshall MG amps and the Vetta is like a giant among children there. I've gotta play really low because it cuts through so well. We were playing Heaven and Hell by Sabbath, and I sing, so for one take I didn't play guitar. It sounded dull. On the next try I played and wow did it sound different. Had my SG with the Brobucker pickup and the Vox set on either US high gain or British modern. No extension cab and it just ruled. The amp mixes so well with other instraments and for recording I would suggest not only playing it alone, but if you can, try it while recording or rehearsing.

Vox Valvetronix

Re: Vox Valvetronix Video & Appreciation Thread

Do you guys know if the blue faced series have "noise reduction" as well?

Are the blue ones worth the price difference they have from the silver grilled?

I ve tried the 100 watt head in a strore... I wasn't exited, but I played it through a Vox 2x12 brown cab with vox speakers... I 've got to try it through some V30s...

Re: Vox Valvetronix Video & Appreciation Thread

I LOVE my little 15, best practice amp I've ever seen, heard, owned.

Yes, the blues have the noise reduction. Are they worth more $$, that is subjective to what you think you need to get out of the amp. What I will say is that with the Blue(AD60/120)you get more: fx, amp models, more parameters to tweak on each setting. I also had an AD60H and really liked it.

Something else to consider if you alread have a good amp, the Tonelab has everything that the blue faced VT's have plus cabinet modeling. I finally played around with one that my buddy just got a few weeks ago and I was very impressed.

Thanks for the info JumpMarine. By good amp you mean a vintage tube amp or a "crystal" clean roland chorus?

As I understand modeling works best with super clean amps. I am not sure if that is the case with the Tonelab boards... Do they compliment a real tube amp? They do have the valve reactor technology but I am not sure what to make of that.
