Re: WAH DOubt - Slash X Hendrix. WHich one?

i know vassshu is gonna make a song and dance about this topic...but whatever wah you get make sure its true bypass. there are no worse tone suckers in current guitar world production than regular crybabys (that includes the hendrix model) when they are off. Actually, i dont even think Vasshu will argue this one, cos the difference is really noticeable. So, to fix it you put in true bypass...then you realize how weak the wah signal is compared to the bypass. Seriously, dont get the hendrix. Also - its nothing like the wahs hendrix used anyway.
The slash is true bypass, so for that alone its a much better wah.

Are you kidding, JP? :smack: You, above everyone else here, NEED an Ibanez WD7 Weeping Demon Wah.

Reasonably priced, nearly infinitely tweakable, and it has a name that suits your style.

You can set it to turn on when you rock the pedal, or by a switch (right side).

I love my WD7.

HEY MAN.. Thanks for the input
I LIked it also. but it sounds too digital for me Q: (

Re: WAH DOubt - Slash X Hendrix. WHich one?

i have the hendrix...its nothing special and its a real tone sucker when off...
i have an old 60s vox, a hendrix, and ancient foxx wah, a modern vox, a standard crybaby, and a morley, ive done a lot of modding too....
anyway....
you want one killer wah?
The MXR CAE wah is the shiz....it has true bypass, two separate switchable inductors for a vintage vox sound or another for a deep thick modern wah. So its kinda like two killer wahs built into one box. It also has a built in switchable boost function. It also has internal timmers to set both wahs exactly to the q that YOU like, plus a trimmer for preset gain boost.
IMHO - its built by the same company as the slash and the hendrix etc...but its better and more versatile than any of the others by MXR/crybaby. Its true boutique sound and performance designed by Bob Brashaw. Total killer wah from any angle.
I have no need for any of those other wahs...they are all gathering dust.

i hadn't really read much about CAE until this post

now i want one of those wahs really, really really bad.

thanks a lot man

I own 3 Wahs. A Vox 847 that was heavily modded, a Vox Clyde McCoy & a vintage Thomas Organ Company Wah(my favorite). These are all good sounding wahs but out of the box..... Teese wahs are hands down the best sounding Wahs I've heard! They are a little more money then the others but well worth it.

Re: WAH DOubt - Slash X Hendrix. WHich one?

It depends on what type of music you are going to play. If you are ever going to be playing metal, the Hendrix wah won't work, as in you will barely be able to hear the effect. I play a lot of styles so I got the 535Q which has lots of controls for changing the tone, definitely haven't regretted the decision

Zakk used the Hendrix wah until his own signature model came out...should do metal fine.

Re: WAH DOubt - Slash X Hendrix. WHich one?

I bought the CAE wah a few years ago, but didn't like it. I ended up sending it back and getting the 535Q instead, which I like much better. I like the 535Q, but if I were in the market now I'd definitely try the Fulltone out before making a final decision. Here's a cut-and-paste of a post I made about the CAE:

"Years ago, before Dunlop had all of the different wah varieties, I had a standard Dunlop wah (with no side-kick switches, knobs, boosts, or anything else), and it sounded great. After years of going wah-less (I was sick of the abuse and overuse), I ordered a MC-404 from MF...specs looked good, and I figure you can't go wrong with Bradshaw. But I really didn't dig it very much. First of all, I didn't like the action of the pedal...too loose feeling. I like to be able to dig in a bit when I'm playing, and it just felt loose and sloppy. But more important than that, the wah sound just wasn't spectacular. I tried it with a few different guitars, in the effects loop and on the front end before the amp (Fender Hot Rod Deville and Vibro-King tube amps), and the wah effect just wasn't very pronounced. In certain registers, on both the red and yellow setting, in and out of the effects loop, you could hardly tell a wah was in use. It was really weird, and pretty lackluster. Also, the feel of it is a bit plasticky. My old standard Dunlop wah had a much better sound and feel.

This is the only item I've ever returned to Musician's Friend (and I've bought a lot from them over the years - they've always treated me very well). I exchanged it for a 535Q, and I'm much happier with that. About the only advantage the MC-404 has is the lights. The 535Q doesn't have them, but it sounds and feels much, much better. It has an adjustable kick boost switch, and with the other controls you can really vary the sound a lot to dial in your own wah sound. And the way I set it, you can certainly hear the wah effect in all registers when it's in use. I'm happy with it, and it's a great replacement for my old original Dunlop wah. I had to pay to ship the MC-404 back to MF, so I'd highly recommend you try one out in person if you're considering mail ordering it."

Maybe you got a dud good sir. It happens. I love mine. Its well built, versatile, and sound great. Everyone has their own experiences so.....

That said, listen up you Brazilian DEMON of UNHOLY METAL! Go a play a few if you can bro. You can listen to clips til your head spins, but it can all change once you put your foot on it with your setup. I don't know if you're still playing the same kind of music you were a few years ago, but if you are, I'd recommend either the CAE Wah or the 535Q. I've yet to try a Cantrell wah, but hear they are great for heavier playing. My personal CAE wah is currently residing on a buddies board gigging and they play a lot of speed and thrash metal. Its all in how you dial it in. Some of the demos don't really do it justice.

Re: WAH DOubt - Slash X Hendrix. WHich one?

Did you adjust the q pots inside? mine (mxr cae) is total killer...and i have plenty of wahs to a/b it with (including the totally uninspiring gcb95) . Its awesome.
