Wah pedal update, Snarling Dogs Whine O Wah

Well in my quest for the perfect wah pedal I've order a couple of contenders, the 800lb heavyweight champ, the RMC3 and the underdog (pun ?) Snarling Dogs Whine O Wah which is under half the price.

I'm a fan of tweakability in a wah as my idea of what a good sweep is may not match someone elses, the perfect funky "quack" tone on my guitar and amp may be different than someones else's.

With that said, the Whine-O-Wah is a said 12 in one pedal in a very, very, heavy case with a goofy foot shaped pedal and a big snarling dog logo with glowing red LED eyes. Nice to know if its on or off but the demonic devil dog look is a little cheesy and not in a cool way like the pedal shape.

Basically this thing has got 3 modes, cream, voodoo and shaft. Clever names huh ?

Cream is a very deep and bassy tone and I honestly find it not to be even useable its so deep. The sweep on this pedal is very very wide so the heel postion is near subbass tones.

Voodoo is I guess the vox type tone though personally I don't get a very good Jimi tone. Its a nice sounding wah but Voodoo Chile sounds a bit off. Its got a decent top end that works for some funky stuff as well.

Last of all theres Shaft. Very high and cutting though again different than a crybaby. Theres a bit more rez to it and the heel is still somewhat deep. Its pretty funky but maybe a little shrill.

Again the pedal travel is very wide and sometimes it seems the upper and lower limits are a bit too much. I find myself trying to keep it in the "Sweet spot" and its a little difficult at times. Not bad but maybe if I could take a little off the top/bottom it would improve things.

Also the pedal has a "beef boost" which is what I'm told is a second inductor. This changes the Q range a bit and thickens up the effect. Its a hit or miss mode as it makes Cream even worse, Voodoo sound pretty good and Shaft a bit thicker in a good way.

Also theres a switch for "agressiveness" (confusing names huh ?) that has estrogen and testosterone. I actually always keep this in the testosterone mode as the other is just a bit thin and weak. I don't know if its just a clean boost or what exactly. I think they have a pedal that does the same effect. I'd say its maybe a bit of an EQ of sorts ?

Rounding it out theres a volume knob which is always nice to adjust the output to match or for a boost.

Its also got a true bypass which seems to work just fine. 9V input as well.

Decent switch as well but heres my biggest gripe. When the pedal is toe down, it hits the switch and makes an annoying click (audible, not in the signal) Maybe I can adjust this somehow as its surely not good for the switch and as I said, annoying.

Overall for the money this is a pretty nice wah though. I do like being able to switch on the fly between voodoo and shaft for different songs. The RMC3 won't allow that but then again, I maybe could set a good in between mode and be set.

I'll see if I can get some clips up this weekend perhaps

Hope that helps shed a bit of light on an intresting and rather unknown pedal. I wouldn't of gone into such detail with a Crybaby or Vox obviously since we've all played one I'm sure but I figured this one might of peaked some peoples intrest

Cheers

Its a pretty darn loud click, basically the pedal comes down and hits the top of the switch as the rubber bumbers don't make contact until the switch is fully depressed. Basically this is the opposite of how the crybaby style switch works where it hits the bumbers first and only by depressing the bumber does switch make contact.

I had one and LOVED it, but it broke in about 2 months. Maybe I got a dud, who knows.
