Wah Suggestions

Re: Wah Suggestions

Go for a Teese! I have the RMC-3FL and it's fantastic, and I don't notice any perceivable loss of tone when it's off.

Re: Wah Suggestions

This is what I use and love it. Doesn't effect my tone at all.

Prior to this wag I had the 95q(?). The switchless one. I didn’t like what it did to my tone one bit. I know it’s buffered but it didn’t really seem to be all that high of quality. The tone suck was glaring.

Re: Wah Suggestions

But if he likes the sound of it, why get rid of it? :dunno:

Bypass looper box = problem solved. CHEAPLY.

Can you leave the wah pedal “on” and then use the loop pedal’s switch to actually engage the circuit?
Or would you need to step on both switches to use the pedal?

The loop pedal are definitely cheaper but if I would need to step on 2 switches to make it work, I think that’s a dealbreaker for me.

But, I’m guessing you can just leave the wah on and engage it with the looper...correct?

Re: Wah Suggestions

My Fulltone Clyde never seems to suck tone bypassed when I use it.

I’ll gladly thank you Tuesday for a better wah pedal today.

Re: Wah Suggestions

There is a switch in the JB Crybaby that'll change it from true-bypass to non-true-bypass. Have you played with that switch yet? My guess is you have it set to the non-true-bypass setting. Open the back and look for a little slider switch above one of the jacks by the inductor. Flip it the other way and try it.

Yes isn't the option True Bypass or Buffer??

Yes. But according to the OP, it's still not "clear" so that tells me it's not true true-bypass. There has to be a small load on there somewhere, like their hard-wire bypass. That's why I recommended the bypass looper box. Leave the wah on in the looper and witch between in/out of the chain with 1 switch.

Re: Wah Suggestions

+1

If you can't get the sound you like from a wah pedal with a 535Q, I don't think you like wah.

Another very different — but very good — wah is the Morley Bad Horsie 2. I recommend owning both.

Re: Wah Suggestions

OP what wah did you get?

Just to chime in on wahs:

I have the MXR CAE 404 Wah. I do not like it for various reasons and will be selling it soon.

I have a very old Crybaby Original Wah that has never worked correctly so I had a biased opinion against it (a band mate left it at my house almost 15 year ago and it was never in good condition). I can't even get rid of this POS.

I ended up going to the guitar store shopping for wah pedals specifically. I tried the Crybaby 535Q thinking I would dislike it after reading tons of info - turns out it was the best wah pedal for me. It does have a variety of sounds available; however, I prefer to "set it and forget it". To me, the 535Q had the best sweep of frequencies, the Q is adjustable, there's a variety of wah voices to choose from, and there is a boost that can be activated with the wah (up to 16 db I believe).

TL;DR - The Crybaby 535Q is my favorite, and many other guitarists favorite, wah pedal.

Re: Wah Suggestions

I had a 535Q several years ago, and really liked it. I may have to get one again some day. I ended up going with the Fulltone Clyde Standard.

I had a CAE wah years ago and couldn’t get rid of it fast enough. That wah is an instant mud pedal.
