Wah Wah, wah?

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

I use a Dunlop GCB-95 (the cheap Crybaby), but it's got a bunch of mods. Instead of the relatively thin, bottom-drops-out tone of the stock pedal, mine has a slight volume boost when activated, a super smooth bass-low mid-mid-high mid-treble transition, a lower frequency range, and it kinda sounds like it's puking. I plan to put a switch in to change the freq range sometime.

"Oohhwaaahh" would be a more fitting name than "wah".

Old............ From the 90's:chairfall :laugh2: . I have a Dunlop Crybaby from the 60's............... now thats old!:fingersx:

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

1960s or 1860s?

I have a first-series Isambard Kingdom Brunel steam-powered wah. :13:

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

First of all and correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think those wahs have a true bypass switch inside so that when deactivated the circuit board is bypassed. That could rob some tone right there. Second of all, Dunlop has used different potentiometers in different years they manufactured the pedal. This can definitely affect the difference of tone you hear while not in/in use. Between the Crybaby and the 847 Vox, I use the Vox. Mine's been modded and is much more vocal than the stock ones, which sound good, too. I always thought the Vox sound had more color than the CB, which is what I like in my sound.
It's all a matter of taste when it comes to wahs; and it also depends on what you're using for gear and what kind of bass and trebles your rig creates - how that is affected by the addition of another modulating sound element into the mix with a bunch of components on a little circuit board your guitar's signal will go through, while on or off before hitting the amp.
Try 'em all out if you can before settling on a certain one, and take your favorite axe with you to hook up to an amp that's like yours.

just my $.02

The 535Q is true bypass with a DPDT switch . . . at least the one that I have is. There's no change in tone once you kick it off. And I don't think it's the pots as much as the inductors that have really changed the sound of the pedals over the years. The 535Q comes with a fasel inductor - which is what a lot of vox wahs used in the past if I remember correclty.

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

I thought I read somewhere that he is using the Teese Wizard wah???

I use a Teese RMC3 set to emulate the wizard wah most of the time but, it's nice to have the extra tonal options available!!!

He uses either a Fulltone wah or a Crybaby...He switches off.

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

He credits fuulltone in his album liner notes i just did not know what fulltone was. So is a fulltone a better wah?

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

I have two wahs, the Vox V847 and the Dunlop Cry Baby From Hell (with the Fasel inductor).

The Vox, like someone else mentioned, tends to be smoother and more colourful. Overall it seems to me that it just has a nicer, rounder tone that does great cleans and gets some cool lead tones as well.

The Dunlop CFH is a great wah, and pretty adjustable. It has a 5 (or 6, can't remember) position switch for the range, a Q knob and a high-end fine tune knob. The only drawback is it's got that Dunlop sound that's more suited to modern music. The sweep isn't as sweet as the Vox wah, but it's still a cool tone.

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

I 'm going to get myself a BYOC wah pretty soon I hope...

I ll make it sound exactly how I want and have fun building it.. Review thread pending!

Re: Wah Wah, wah?

Ibanez WD7 Weeping Demon is the most tweakable and versatile Wah.
It's build like a tank ,you can choose between switch (like vox ,cb etc) ,or auto (like morley). That makes it unique. There are tons of things to tweak. It can sound really 60's and it can sound like 22.century.You can use it with bass too.it's true bypass.Have a great battery room wich easy to acces ,altough if it's fixed to your pedal board. It screams ,talks ,cries ,wails.Everything you want from a wah.And the price is reasonable!
