Walnut Bodied Guitar, Need pickup suggestions

Re: Walnut Bodied Guitar, Need pickup suggestions

Ok, haven't got around to getting pickups yet. I've been listening to a bunch of Def Leppard and 80's rock lately, and now I'm wondering aobut getting a bit more higher output pups.

More specifically, I've been wondering about possibly a Custom Custom, paired with a A2P or a PG.

also, I'm curious, when customs get paired with PAF's, is there a big volume difference? I mean, The Customs, around 14k, are nearly twice the 7-8k pafs.

Nah,not really. You're forgetting that dc resistance is not a proper measure for output.

In a walnut les paul, I'd have a superdistortion.plain n simple.that pickup kicks ass,big time. In the neck an air Norton. Great combination for all sorts of styles.

Re: Walnut Bodied Guitar, Need pickup suggestions

I'm just posting this little bit of info for anyone who finds this thread when searching about walnut guitars.

I build folk harps for a living. No, they aren't guitars, but I handle hundreds of board feet of walnut, cherry, and hard maple every year for the past 14 years. From what I've seen, the density/weight of walnut varies significantly from board to board...much more so than maple, which has been very uniform. Unless a builder is selecting walnut based on a narrow range of specs, I could see how every walnut guitar could have very different sonic properties when compared to one another, making it a tough wood to "categorize".

I have a couple walnut guitars in the works, including one that is all walnut (except the fingerboard), but they won't be built for a while. When they are done, I'll post something about them.

Good luck with the guitar, it looks great!

So, would the CC/A2P be a good pairing? and would it do ok for the tones i want, figuring that it will bright due to the maple and ebony, regardless of the walnut?
