While you might not consider yourself an expert, none of us know your touch and picking technique better than you and this has a massive influence over your tone.

Pickup tone becomes almost non existant in a very heavy distorted pedal setup. I'd once tried with all my 7 guitars connected to the same pedal settings. Bearing in mind, the guitars all had different body wood, neck wood & pups configurations.

The results was not very convincing. It seems the heavy distorted pedal settings 'colored' the tone to its own. It actually marred the guitar & pup tonal properties to only a minute difference with the exception of sustain.

Had a big breakthrough tonight.. A revelation on Easter Sunday no less..) :headbang:

I was jamming away and testing things when I needed to silence the guitar for sec but was away from my amp (i almost always do it this way) so i went for the volume control on the guitar and realised I couldn't dial it down to zero.

I soon realised I had a bad connection on the lug 3 ground of the volume pot. This is why I was getting a poor response and was sounding muddy on lower volume, forcing me to keep the tone higher to compensate and causing the harsh highs I was getting.

I fixed the bad connection and the result was instant and amazing.! At full volume the guitar had gotten 10% more evil, just like that and I could alter the tone and clear the highs somewhat but keep the top end as crunchy as my gran chewing a brick.
Even better than that was I could now use the volume control properly and the guitar becomes super versatile. Going all the way down to around 3 now gives me an almost clean, clear tone on the same amp setting with which I can summon the wicked one himself.. Awesome.. :firedevil

I also tweaked the pickup height accordingly and altered the pole pieces to get everything perfect.

The guitar now sounds incredible. This Duncan Distortion is the perfect tone for me and what I want to play. There's no way I will be changing it now. She's hot, she's dirty, she's obedient, she's fun, she screams, she's so tight and she has DD's.)) What more can you ask for....

Cheers guys..)) :friday:
