Does the power tube matter that much.?
I have a SE EL34 head.

Re: Want a single ended 6L6 amp - anyone know whwew one is?

Not sure if they are still being made but there's the THD Univalve. It takes any octal based tube...el34, 6l6, 6v6 etc. with no fuss...just pop in a new tube. I'm sure somebody still makes a similar amp but I can't remember who.

The THD UNIVALVE is actually a really fun amp!!! Also look into the Champion 600 reissues, the speaker in the combo sucks but if you run it like a head into a nice 1X12 or 2X12 they sound flipping awesome!!!

Jet City was making it for awhile. I don't know if they still are but there should be some out there.

Champion 600 is 6V6, not 6L6.

Emery SuperBaby is also a fun one, particularly if you get the "Mad Scientist" tube kit with it. Takes anything, 6L6, EL-34, KT-66, KT-77, etc.

The Marshall Mini-Jubiliee is a single EL-34. Could be tweaked for 6L6?

Not clear what budget were talking here.

Re: Want a single ended 6L6 amp - anyone know whwew one is?

Thank you all for your replies.
Yes, the power tube matters to me. 6L6 has more headroom than 6V6 and can produce almost double the output. Also, single ended amps sound better IMO.
The Marshall Mini Jubiliee appears to be a push pull amp with 2 x EL34. Emery SuperBaby looks right on except that out of general principle not willing to pay $900 for $70 worth of xfmrs and $100 or so for the various components needed. Think the best plan will just be to order the parts and put one together myself.
I was hoping someone might know of a place that sold one for 2 or 3 hundred bucks. Thanks again.

Re: Want a single ended 6L6 amp - anyone know whwew one is?

If you can build, that might be the way to go.
But like i say...is 6L6 important for some reason.?
It would be used, and you probably cannot find much info, but.....i have a Fab Fox, Custom Studio SE 12 Watt Head.
Not even sure if they are still making amps or not. But they made some great Studio/Recording amps.
It would be in your price range.......:dunno:

Mini Jubilee uses two EL34s in class AB. How they get the 20 watts and 5 watts is by low plate voltage. It's about 275 volts on 20 watts, and about 160 volts on 5 watts. They are also doing something interesting in terms of screen voltage. It does not do the pentode/triode thing.

It is also cathode biased and takes any octal power tubes with out needing to adjust bias. Just swap em out.

Re: Want a single ended 6L6 amp - anyone know whwew one is?

6L6 has more headroom than 6V6
JJ 6v6s have a lot of headroom than regular 6v6s and can handle a ton of voltage. Worth looking into if you want the 6l6 tone that plugs straight into a 6v6 amp. They sound a lot more like a 6l6 than a 6v6 and have plenty of firm low end.

and can produce almost double the output.
+3db in speaker efficiency gives the same nominal volume as doubling the wattage of the amp.

Just throwing this out there. It might widen your options.

Thank you zzmoore, but yes 6L6 single ended is very important. Your Fox amp from what I could find is a push pull using 2 6V6s. What I read about that amp was very impressive and is a definite keeper. Put it in a tweed cabinet with a good 10 or maybe 12 speaker and you have got yourself and instant high end classic amp.

Excellent points. I have tried the JJ 6V6 in a little champ clone and you are absolutely correct they do increase the headroom but not like a 6L6 and don't have the classic sound. (or maybe just a bone headed old foggy that is fixated on something a long time ago and far, far away.)

Re: Want a single ended 6L6 amp - anyone know whwew one is?

Since you were talking a DIY project...I remembered this from "The Guitar Amp Handbook" (Dave Hunter) It's a DIY single ended amp. The book has the schematic, parts list and a good deal of construction instruction. The links from the book are dead now but it appears there's life here.

Dual-single-ended combo

2 6V6 for 8w
1 6V6 for 4w
1 6L6 for 8w
1 EL34 or KT66 for 9-10w
1 6K6GT for 3w

accepts other octal tubes as well...

Peavey Windsor Studio is single ended, came with an EL34, but accepts 6l6 self biasing and has a built in attenuator.

Re: Want a single ended 6L6 amp - anyone know whwew one is?

If building's an option, Weber has a kit that is exactly what you're looking for: https://www.tedweber.com/maggie-c-kt

I've built two of their kits and, while they are cheaper than the average kit, they are perfectly fine and good quality.

While I encourage you to buy from Weber, if money's a big concern or you don't want to build a combo, you could go from their bill of material and source the components yourself. Cheaper (usually) and you could make it into a head...

Perfect! Mucho Thankos.

No problem! while you're at it, sign-up at the weber forum. It's a great community and the guys are all willing to help if you run into problems. Since Weber doesn't offer assistance with their kits, it's the best place to ask questions...

Looked at their Champ kit and it uses a 6V6 with the same power xfmer. https://www.tedweber.com/media/kits/5f1_layout.jpg If the 6L6 and 6V6 use this same pwr xfmr could I build the Champ kit and put a 6L6 in it? (much simpler build, more to my liking)

Re: Want a single ended 6L6 amp - anyone know whwew one is?

output transformer is different. you could build the champ kit but im assuming the primary is different
