Want a single ended 6L6 amp - anyone know whwew one is?

Or use a different impedance speaker to match the primary. The 6v6 output tranny is probably a little lower wattage too so if you want a cleaner sound get the larger one

Champ kit is a 7K primary and probably 5 watt iron. WSE15 in the Maggie kit is 5K primary and 15 watts. Something in the middle, like this, should work well also ... http://www.ebay.com/itm/OT10SE-USA-...691315?hash=item25beab5c73:g:DKoAAOxyVh5SJTjh

I'm not a guru but you may have to watch for some changes. One example is the screen resistor on the 6L6 which isn't always there on a 6V6. Also the cathode/bias resistor wattage rating probably needs to be higher on the 6L6 amp.

Thank you all very much. Order the Champ kit and substituted the WSE15 opt. Will have to do some research while waiting for the box of parts. Want to see what it might require to squeeze 15W out it.

getting the most power out of an amp doesnt usually lead to getting the best tone. if you want power then a single ended amp isnt the way to go. if you want yummy bright clear tone then se can be delightful!

Well, being greedy on this one. Definitely want single ended 6L6 because know that will without a doubt give me the baseline tone. Will experiment to see how much output can get and back off when the tone starts going off track. Have a contact, built a killer 12ax7 preamp for me, will get guidance from him regarding squeezing watts and keeping tone.
However, after 60 years what the end result will most likely be is an 8 watt amp with a heavenly tone.

I'll just add that if you wanted as much clean headroom as possible, you probably made the right choice with the 15 watt iron. I swapped out what was, theoretically, about 4 watt iron for 10 watt iron in a SE 6v6 and gained a boatload of volume and clean headroom ... but, the smaller OT saturated easier which has it's own advantages (depending on what you want). All in all, I'm much happier with the bigger OT but the plan with the larger OT was to eventually run another 6V6 in parallel. I'd need a larger power transformer to do that first. Anyway, if I do that I'll probably get back to getting some more saturation out of the larger OT. This amp will beat the hell out of the 6V6 so I may just keep this one the way it is and build another one to run dual 6V6's in parallel (and within specs for the tube :bigthumb:)

Update your progress. I'm curious to see how it turns out.

Re: Want a single ended 6L6 amp - anyone know whwew one is?

I'm a long-time lurker, first time poster; I've enjoyed reading a lot of information about wiring, pickups, etc. around these parts!

I noticed this recent thread when doing a Google search on single-ended (Class A) EL34 and 6L6 amps, as I've been curious about the same subject myself. I wanted to chime in and say that Randelli Amplification (small builder in Austin, TX) used to make a very cool amp called a Rude Mood, though I don't think he's making them anymore as the website appears to be down. But it was two discrete amps in a 2x10 combo that could be run in parallel with each other, the Mood side is 6L6 and the Rude is EL34 but could also run a 6L6 without modification.

Anyway I just wanted to throw that amp out there, and also say that if anyone knows what happened with Randelli or how to get in touch with the builder, I'd love to know. He made some other cool class A amps that he sold as kits as well, one was called a Hellfire for instance. But his stuff seemed to be of great quality.

Thanks!
