Re: Want better pickups for les paul classic
I had the same problem and resorted to putting in a set of Duncan '59s. They solved my problem with the high output ceramics that came with the guitar. I did learn to "tame" the ceramics, but I think my choice of the '59 was what I needed. I play various styles and have used both tube and solid state amps with the Classic. The '59s work with both types of amps. They are ALNICO V and are designed to be a PAF type. I can roll back the volumes on the Les Paul and these Duncans clean up nicely. They are vesatile and a good place to start in your ultimate quest for your own tone preferences. Just make sure to get the pickup height correct for your style of playing. I tinkered with the height and even the slightest of adjustments can produce noticible results.....bad or good.
