I have got a couple of Seymour Duncans that I want to try in the Nitefly. The stock pickups are Dimarzios. However, I struggle a bit with getting my head around the wiring in this thing. I hoped that I only needed to slap in the SDs, and wire them up in the similar way, but apparently not.
Here's the diagram that is closest to what I want:
The push pull pot in the Nitefly is the tone pot, though. And there's other differences.... At the bottom of this post is a simple diagram which describes the wiring in my Nitefly. The differences I have found are as follows (note that the screw poles of the Dimarzios are positioned towards each other, contrary to the diagram from Seymour):
a) the connection between the volume and tone pot: the SD diagram instructs to connect the left terminal (L in the drawing) on the tone pot, and further wiring out to the switch. The stock wiring in the Nitefly connects the volume pot to the center terminal on the tone pot (C in drawing).
As a result, the cap going to ground is connected to the center terminal in the SD diagram, but it is connected to the left terminal in my guitar. Additionally, there's no cap on the volume pot in the SD diagram.
b) this puzzles me the most: I know that various pickup producents have different color codes on their wires. However, whereas the SD pickups have both of their red and white wires going to the push pull circuit, the Dimarzios have the green and red wires from the neck to the push pull terminals, and black and white wires from the bridge. Why not the same, as it is instructed for the SDs? It doesn't make sense to me.. Same thing goes for the other connections..
Also, there's no apparent grounding for the 3-way switch.. There are no bad sounds or noises from the set I have in their now.. If someone could enlighten me a bit on this, I would greatly appreciate it!
