Want to see my chiseled and partially naked body?

This is the paulownia body I recently got from GFS.

I decided since the neck pickup route was so huge, I might as well take it the reset of the way to fit a mini hum. So I took my chisel and dremel to it.

Then I realzied the thin candy shell on primer finish wasn't going to do it for me, so I sanded it back to remove all of the gloss and exposed some of the wood. Not a bad looking piece of wood at all

The remaining stripped back finish will serve well as part of my primer coat. I will recoat the entire guitar with BIN tinted shellac primer.

Color pending me making up my mind, which is all over the place right now

PS ... and this is all going on while I am doing my Inverness green Esquire build, which is now wearing primer. Fun weekend!

That's not a bad idea. That or a heifercaster. Hmm.

Tell us how the Paulownia body is! I really am considering using it if it sounds good and isn't much like poplar and basswood in terms of 'cheapness'. I see potential in it, especially for 'vintage' jobs.

I bought a body from GFS also and after looking at it decided to strip her. There was a chip on an edge to wood that I measured the coating as 0.04 inches deep. She was shy and I did not get a picture of her naked but as I was going through the layers with aircraft remover then heat she had at least 3 color coats on her. Silver on the bottom then purple then black to hide whatever previous mistakes had been made. It inspired me to do this:

It is Reranch Inca Silver with a translucent purple edge (Transtint dye in laquer applied with an airbrush) and the sides are black (dyed laquer alpplied with an airbrush) to match the all black GFS neck I bought. Still putting clear coats on the cover the metal flakes. It will be a gift this christmas for on of my daughters.

They're VERY light and soft.

That said, they sound great.
