As I mentioned last week, I've been on a quest for the ultimate Vox AC 30. Just couldn't bring myself to by a PCB version though...all of my amps are handwired vintage amps. Great as the reissue sounds, I wanted a handwired amp.

So I took Gearjoneser's advice and bought this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3775548845&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT

I'm selling all my other large amps: '74 Fender Super Reverb, '71 Marshall 50 watt and '59 Fender Bassman and a bunch of guitars. I'll post pics and prices of all the stuff I'll be moving out on the buy & sell page here over the next week.

Sweet score Lew!!! It looks real goo and clean. Im sure that thing will sound KILLER! Why are you gonna move so much stuff...just no need anymore? I'd love to have your Marshall head (that is the amp I dream of at night), but there is now way on Gods earth I can afford an amp like that! I hope you really enjoy your Matchless, Im sure it sounds as good as it looks!

Re: Want to see my "new" Matchless?

Could someone explain the "Matchless mystique" to me?

About the time I stopped playing they were very highly regarded..I kept hearing about them in mags and stores, but I've never heard, seen, or played through one.

And did they go out of business or something? Is that part of the "problem"?

Sweet looking amp Lew. Wish I was in a position to snag some of your "discards". :)

The original Matchless amps use amazing sounding transformers and parts and are handwired to military specs. You open them up and they look like a work of art inside.

As for tone, the DC 30 and SC 30 have incredible chime and complexity to the tone. Just extremely lively and interactive. And they are made for guys like me who like to dial in a tone and then clean it up with thier guitar's volume control.

I'm selling everything I don't actually play anymore and I'll be contributing a portion to Tsunami refugees. Our Sangha has hooked up with a well respected activist in Thailand who is helping build boats to replace the many fishing boats that were destroyed by the Tsunami. We've decided this is a good way to help because it will get the poorest fisherman up and running again so they can support thier families.

Congrats Lugi!!! :arms:

Can't wait for the review. May you play it in good health.

That amp is sweet Lew. I saw Phil Keaggy about 10 years ago and he was playing a Matchless and a Dr. Z and it sounded incredible. I think he was using the Matchless for his leads.

Thanks! I'm downsizng to just a few things I really love. I was discussing this with Curly a few weeks ago. I have so much stuff that I don't even play. My '71 Marshall being more valuable and collectable with all the original parts and caps was the clincher. I plugged it in for the first time in a year or so and I knew right away the 35 year old caps had finally worn to the point where the amp didn't sound as good as it once did. So rather than devalue it by doing a cap job I decided to sell it.

The other thing is, I'm going deaf. Literally. My loud amps like the Marshall, 59 Bassman and Super Reverb and others are just to loud for me to enjoy anymore.

So I'm selling them all and just keeping the Matchless. With the Weber Mass I should have a good time with it! I love AC 30 type amps.

I'll also be selling some cool MIJ Strats and a wonderful MIM Fender James Burton Tele and few other things.

My daughter is photographing everything for me and I'll list them here first...well not here. On the Trading Post page. :)

I'll be keeping my 20 watt Fenders: tweed Deluxe, Deluxe Reverb, etc.

Very very nice Lew!!

I've wanted a Matchless ever since I figured out it was what my favorite guitarist (Brian Blush of The Refreshments) used...along with Duncans!

Too rich for my blood, but some day I'll get my hands on a Chieftain..........

ENJOY it in good health!

Re: Want to see my "new" Matchless?

LOL!

So how'd I do price wise? Was $2200 shipped with a nice roadcase about the going price for such an amp? I couldn't find anything to reference it to in any of ebay's completed auctions. Looked around on Harmony Central and it seemed about right to me.

To late now anyway! :laugh2:

Thanks, Lew
