wanted - dogear pickup covers for soapbar pups

Re: wanted - dogear pickup covers for soapbar pups

Do you mean a way to mount a P-90 on a pickguard...like having screws on the sides instead of straight through the pickup and into the wood? I would like that, too.
I haven't had any luck with internet searches yet. There's probably someone out there that offers it as a custom thing. So far what I'm seeing is vintage reproductions and humbucker-sized jobbies. Personally, I like being able to adjust the height of a pickup without having to recut pieces of foam or strip the screwholes in a guitar body. As far as dog-ears go I haven't found any decent pictures showing what's under the cover, and it looks like there's not much in the way of height adjustment with those, either. But I hope I'm wrong.

Why hasn't the guitar industry updated this one stinkin' thing in over 60 years? Is it so hard to put a P-90 on a mounting bracket...or would that offend the delicate sensibilities of the Cork-sniffing-change-fearing-my-god-that's-not-how-Kalamazoo-intended-it crowd?

If there are some P-90s out there that can be pickguard/pickup ring mounted (with springs & screws), then disregard my ranting and whining and I'll click the link that hopefully gets provided.

The difference between the soapbar and dogear mounting techiniques is entirely in the metal baseplates. Dogears have lugs at either end of the baseplate. Thus, to mount a Soapbar P90 "doggy style", it is only necessary to change the baseplate. This will involve some screwdriver work and the desoldering and resoldering of the ground connection.

The only thing that anyone will be sniffing is solder fumes. :D

I feel much better now! I may have to look into doing something like that in the future.

Gibson makes or did make a version of the soapbar that mounts to the SG pickguard. They have square "wings" on each end that takes the pickguard screw.
