Wanted: Tele Parts/Pickups

So here's the deal. Christmas is coming up and I have a friend who wants to learn to play guitar. Seeing as I just acquired a Tele neck in a trade, I figured I'd build him a Tele.

I have the neck and assorted small parts (tuners, strap pins, knobs, pots, caps...etc.)

Here's what I need (and I'm looking for really cheap, this guy has never picked up a guitar before)...

A body, thinking of this one on the 'bay, seems like the cheapest option, (let me know if you have an alternative):

Pickups

Pickguard

Control plate (chrome)

Jack plate (chrome)

Bridge (chrome)

The neck also needs a nut, and I have no experience cutting one. I'll work that out later.

Re: Wanted: Tele Parts/Pickups

To be honest, for the amount it'll take to acquire even the cheapest parts to build said guitar, you could pick him up a Squier Bullet or SX something or another.

Not trying to deter you in your acquisitions, but in these hard times, it would make the most sense to me.

Re: Wanted: Tele Parts/Pickups

The thought crossed my mind, beandip. Strictly financially speaking, I'm sure there are better options. It's not just about the money though, it's about the, "Hey, I made this for you" aspect as well. I was also planning on hand painting the body with some sort of original design.

I was just browsing Guitar Fetish, and their hardware is pretty cheap new. My biggest concerns are the pickups, body, and bridge.

Re: Wanted: Tele Parts/Pickups

Ahh, I get what you're saying. Best of luck to you in your search man. I'm sure he'll love it.

Re: Wanted: Tele Parts/Pickups

Yeah, just make sure you find a body and bridge to match.. and that the neck mounts onto the body.

Re: Wanted: Tele Parts/Pickups

You may have checked it out before. There's a site that is all Tele's tdpri.com where you may find some good resources. A friend of mine is building a pine tele. It seems like that may be a really cost-effective body, since pine is pretty easy to work with. Good luck!

Re: Wanted: Tele Parts/Pickups

Thanks guys.

It looks like I'll be going with that ebay body (link up top). I haven't been able to find anything that beats $50 for a body.

Anyone out there with pickups for sale or trade?

Re: Wanted: Tele Parts/Pickups

Someone on here was just asking about wanting to sell his Fender Noiseless Tele neck pickup for around $25-$30 which is pretty cheap.

Re: Wanted: Tele Parts/Pickups

I've got a set of the Tex-mex Nashville Fender pups from a MIM Fender. I'll check tomorrow to see where they are and I'll let you know a price. It's a neck/middle/bridge set, but I'm guessing you'll just be interested in the neck and bridge. Probably have a switch to throw in and some random other parts. I'll hit you up via PM when the festivities of tomorrow die down.

Re: Wanted: Tele Parts/Pickups

I have a few guards. What color do you want? If you buy Andrizzle's pickups I can throw the guard in with those and you wont owe me anything more than a buck or two for shipping.

Re: Wanted: Tele Parts/Pickups

I have a couple of Tele bodies on the way and am planning on building one for myself over the winter. If anyone has any extra Tele necks they would like to get rid of please let me know.

Thanks, jonesy

Wow, thanks for all the posts and PMs. I didn't win the bidding for that body on ebay so I gotta figure that out.
I'll respond to your parts offers shorty, let me just think about this body first...

Re: Wanted: Tele Parts/Pickups

I don't know anything about those, but my Tele (Fender American Standard) is Ash and completely stock and sounds/plays awesome. Natural ash with a maple neck is nice.

Re: Wanted: Tele Parts/Pickups

If you can't find a used bridge cheap, get the Wilkinson compensated 3-saddle from GuitarFetish. Bestest relatively in-tune Tele twang you can buy for 25 bucks.
