Re: Warm amps with thickness and aggression?
You can go to
www.vhtusers.com to read threads on the new SIG:X amp. I really want to try that thing. I amy just hold out a bit longer and keep saving till I decide. Or, I can keep buying and selling.
If I went Egnater, I would probably go the TOL 100 if I found a used original or the MOD 50. I will also not rule out a used Bogner Ecstacy but that is a lot to pay for a bar band/club amp. Another thing is the MOD 50 and the new VHT are said to be amazing at lower volumes. We live in a condo so i hate always having to wait to get to rehearsal or a gig to turn up. Even the Mesa Roadster is said to do the same, but Mesas do not sound all that warm to me. Maybe the older Mark IVs but they also are a nightmare to tweak and they can be somewhat 80s sounding to me.
I wish Diezel or Framus made an amp I would like and could afford...at least with Diezel. They do not seem versatile however.
I am hoping this new VHT is warmer and softer than th edry sounding ULs, etc. Steve, the owner of VHT says this amp will be mush more touch sensitive, softer, more sag while retaining the VHT clarity.
Also, the thought of spending a ton of cash on the mod only to have to buy and sell modules till I find my thing could be frustrating. I will say however that the clips I hear of the MOD 50 blow my mind.
Also, there are some promising small amp builders out there like Splawn. I hear they improved the clean on those amps. Also, the new Cameron amps!
How about Wizard amps? If only Cornford made a two channel head.
