warm chorus

always SD

hi
i would like to know if
the neo clone is good for songs like "purple rain"

or if a MXR would be "warmer" than another pedal but only one knob :(

i can have a used ibanez chorus (4 knobs too)

i would like to have a beautiful sound

Re: warm chorus

Well if quantity of knobs is a priority, then look elsewhere. But the Micro is a fantastic chorus pedal.

Re: warm chorus

Don't get the Neo clone.

I tried it in a store and I could not use it. I use chorus all the time. My chorus pedal is always on (granted, it's a stereo chorus pedal), and if I had to use the Neo Clone, I'd rather switch it off.

Re: warm chorus

more knobs= more sounds

and if you make a comparison : Boss ch1-ch5 vs MXR?

Ce1= 1 knob, sounds better than all of them combined.

I'm not here to argue, buy something else, sounds like you already made up your mind.

Re: warm chorus

The Red Witch Empress Chorus can be whatever you need it to be.

Warm. Not so warm. Wet and sickening....totally subtle. It's a frightening pedal.

I know Ben's Medusa pedal is an older design. The Empress is amazing.

Re: warm chorus

Roland Dimension D, BOSS Dimension C, BOSS Digital Dimension, BOSS CE-20 Chorus Ensemble.

Re: warm chorus

I would almost NEVER recommend a chorus without Rate, Depth, and Level.

That said - the CF7 Chorus Factory has a bunch of models and more parameters than most of the originals! Or you can just leave the extra stuff alone.

Re: warm chorus

that chorusy purple rain rhythm guitar part was played by Wendy Melvoin. Videos of that era show her using a rickenbacker into a roland jazz chorus amp. HAving owned a jazz chorus i can definitely attest to the lushness of its chorus sound.
However, prince has always famously been a user of boss pedals. Even to the point of him eschewing the super expensive and amazing bradshaw rack system he had built, to go back to his old skool boss inline setup.
So, unless you want lug around a large and heavy JC120, see if you can get your hands on a boss ce-2. They are getting expensive these days, but not too bad. They do sound lush. If not, then it is pretty easy to mod the ce-3 stereo chorus so it sounds the same. The other one worth looking at is the voodoo labs chorus (sounds like a boss ce-1). All three of these pedals are discontinued but they are all pretty nice. Its funny, i just realized i hate using chorus, but i've owned all of these over the years!
You can probably get pretty close to any or all of these old skool analog choruses with something more recent tho. There are plenty of boutique makers out there.
Re: knobs. More knobs means a more complex circuit. Take that as you will, but in my experience, more is rarely more when it comes to any guitar circuit.

Re: warm chorus

I think of the 80s Pop/RnB/Country when I think of the one knob MXR chorus. It's a great pedal, but it is what it is.

Re: warm chorus

I think probably the "warmest" chorus that I personally have heard in years is the TC Electronic Corona Chorus. I'm all about chorus. I have an MXR Zakk Wylde, TC Electronic G Major, and my Eleven Rack that I use for chorus on every tone that I use. I don't run the Zakk anymore much unless I'm playing through an amp without the Eleven Rack and G Major. I personally prefer digital chorus and detuners. Anyways, I think the Corona is super warm sounding. Plus, I think it has that digital footprint stuff going on or whatever it's called.

Re: warm chorus

Boss CE-2, CE-3 and the CE-20 all sound great. I'm currently using a CE-3 on my board.

DOD made the FX-60 Stereo Chorus, and it is one of my all-time favorites. I also have a DOD Performer 500 that I use with acoustic guitar, and it is also a great pedal. I think I actually like the DOD Chorus pedals better than the Boss.

Never tried the Digitech Chorus Factory, but based on my experience with DOD, it should be very good. I instead bought the Digitech Hardwire Stereo Chorus a couple of years ago, I think this is the one that will replace the Boss CE-3 currently on my board.

Chorus is the one pedal that DOD/Digitech does really well. For a Phasor or Flanger, I'd go with a different company like Boss or MXR.

Have you thought about a Vibe pedal, or a Rotary Speaker pedal? These also chorus, but in a very subtle and different way.
