Re: Warm, full, singing tone
I did find a great priced on a used set of Pearly Gates. They should be here in a few days.
For me, I think I need to experiment a bit. It felt like a good compromise, and I can always do the magnet switch to an A5, to approximate the BurstBucker Pro tone. Since gain is not my primary concern, and given the price of the Pearly Gates, it seemed to make a lot of sense. If they're not for me, I can always resell them, as they are considered a great pair of pickups, just not everyones taste (as all things I suppose).
In the end, I think this will help me determine if an APII for the neck, PG set, or end up with a magnet swap (PG+) is the ultimate outcome. I'm still interested in the Dimzarzio , but used seems to be a financially better way to go. The anitquties were a little to $$ for what I need (for now).
What is interesting about this thread, given variations in wood types and electronics, is there really isn't a definite consensus. I do appreciate everyone's comments, and please do keep the suggestions coming. Who knows where things may end up once the set arrives.
