Warmoth neck on a Square heel Ibanez body?

Does anyone know if the 24 fret necks Warmoth sells will fit/work on one of the old school Ibanez guitars w/ the square heel?

Re: Warmoth neck on a Square heel Ibanez body?

The original square heal Ibanez RG and S,etc necks and neck pockets where supposedly designed so that the necks could be swapped with Fender type necks. I'd double check it with some Google searches, but I believe I remember reading that somewhere a few years back.

Re: Warmoth neck on a Square heel Ibanez body?

Warmoth makes a 24 fret neck with an overhang similar to the old Ibanez 24 fret necks. I just don't know if they're compatible. I know the pocket specs are the same.

Re: Warmoth neck on a Square heel Ibanez body?

There's some great information to had on this forum, but, personally, I'd contact Warmoth to be absolutely certain...

Re: Warmoth neck on a Square heel Ibanez body?

You mention anything other than Fender to Warmoth and they freeze up and say no.

Re: Warmoth neck on a Square heel Ibanez body?

Yeah, they'll tell you it won't, but it will. I know because you can put an RG neck on other stuff wink-wink.

Re: Warmoth neck on a Square heel Ibanez body?

I just sent Perle guitars a email asking for a quote. He specializes in Ibanez stuff, so whichever has the best price....

Re: Warmoth neck on a Square heel Ibanez body?

On an Ibanez OSNJ neck, the heel is 15mm tall and the neck/fingerboard extension measures 9mm.

On the Warmoth neck for my Cabronita Tele project, the heel is 20mm tall and the fingerboard extension 4mm thick.

NOTE - the Warmoth fingerboard extension is, literally, that - a fingerboard extension. It consists entirely of rosewood. It is the same thickness as the rest of the fingerboard.

So, in answer to the OP question, yes, the Warmoth neck will fit an Ibanez OSNJ body but there will be a sizeable gap between the body and the fingerboard extension.

Re: Warmoth neck on a Square heel Ibanez body?

Oh! This is good to know! I just picked up an old Ibanez stagestar to mess with... if I destroy the neck somehow then I have options.

I'm new to the forum! The wife didn't really care to hear me talk about guitars.

Re: Warmoth neck on a Square heel Ibanez body?

Warmoth's 24 fret extension tends to curl downward over time. There is no support under it and the fret tangs in the slot are pressurizing it. The Ibanez RG neck has a bit of maple extending under the board for reinforcement, that's why the body is cut away under the extension. None of this prevents the Warmoth neck from fitting, I would just see what Perle offers first. If he has a neck program that places the maple under the fretboard it could be a better bet.

Re: Warmoth neck on a Square heel Ibanez body?

Well PHOOO. Perle isn't currently set up to do the old school necks. He's only doing AANJ style currently. The Warmoth will definitely fit, and that's what Perle recommended if I was in a rush, but apparently there's some issues. I'm not sure what I'm going to do w/ this project. I'm probably just going to shelve it for now. Too much what if around it for me to really put the money into it.

Re: Warmoth neck on a Square heel Ibanez body?

I remember a guy doing this on the Unofficial Warmoth forum, but I couldn't find the thread. But yes! It'll work. A good alternative to people who love RGs but not pencil thin necks. I think there are a few places that'll make a replacement neck though. I'd ask over at Jemsite.

Also, keep USACG and Musikraft in mind. Just throwing them out there. I love my Warmoths, but options are great to have.
