Warmoth neck

Hi. Well gonna replace my MIM Strat neck have had it for 25 years, fret's gettin a little low[still totally playable]. Looking at a Vintage Modern-10-16/probably some Jumbo fret's.Gonna finish it myself. But thinking maybe spending a bit more for slightly better piece of wood. Will the extra $ get me any more than cosmetic's[tone, etc] . And what is Quartersawn about? Figure a good neck will be a good cornerstone for any future mod's.

Re: Warmoth neck

Quartersawn will sound different but then all the beloved vintage Fenders are not.

Figured wood, I don't think anybody has committed to saying they sound any different.

What I would watch out for is one of the light truss rod options, not the double truss rod or any double expanding rods. Vintage modern is probably kosher.

Too large frets are probably changing sound, too. Myself I still with tall or wide but not both.

Supposedly, heavily figured woods (particularly Birdseye) can have stability issues... I would prefer quarter sawn, but I like a stiffer neck.

I thought there was a thread about figured neck wood recently and it was decided that it really doesn't have those issues?

Re: Warmoth neck

So a Flame Maple doesn't fit the heavily figured correct? And so the 6150 is a middle ground but wider and thicker than the MIM's? Say's that is what F American's use. I think the 10 radius and the 11/16th's nut makes for more comfortable playin. Have the 10 radius and 1'5/8th's on my TC630 and after some getting use to the chunkiness it's pretty comfortable.

I have a Warmoth neck that I bought in 1993. It has Warmoth Contruction (pre-Pro Contruction) with the dual-action truss rod, compound radius, 6105 frets, boatneck contour and regular maple. Nothing fancy. It plays great. No issues ever and I play that guitar a lot.

I find nothing wrong with the dual-action truss rod like some do. That fat neck helps give my guitar a big fat tone.

Well that's interesting cause I was looikng at the Fatback and thinkin that mite be a pretty sweet option. But ya gotta wait 3 -5 weeks for the none "Stock neck'' would be worth it if it Faten's up the tone!

There can be a difference between a dual-action truss rod and a dual truss rod. The thing that Warmoth puts into the Pro stuff today is actually two rods side by side.

"Dual action" simply means that it can force the neck to bend both ways, as opposed to a single action rod that can only make it more straight. It might be a single rod, though, although a bit more involved than a simple plain rod.

No, actually it is not 2 side by side. They explain that on their truss rod page but what they use is a double expanding truss rod. It's all explained there. Same as what is in my neck but back when I bought it they called it dual-action.

Most folks know that those dual actions truss rods, much like Stainless Steel frets, are tone killers.

Ok Jer. Tell that to my frankenstrat. If you heard it you would think differently. Besides, I'm not most folks.

Re: Warmoth neck

Just 2 cents...I would not waste money on a Warmoth neck.

I have had 3 or 4 of them over the years and not a single one was worth talking about and on top of that the last 2 had the Warmoth 10-16 compound radius and even some of the best techs in the business couldn't get them to set up correctly.

There are LOTS of options out there today and I wouldn't give Warmoth a dime of my money.

Yeah I 'member Theodie sayin' those compound radius Warmoht necks couldnt be set up right.
I remember saying that on the Warmoht fourm awhile back, and the Warmoth guys did have an answer for it , but you could tell they'd heard about it before, casue they were kind of defensive.

I hope your right, I just paid 200 bucks for Hoss' warmoth neck.

Ive had way worse luck with USACG necks. The ones I have got all screwey trussrods bad trussrods with aweful fretwork.
Every warmoth neck Ive had has a great trussrod, and excellent Fretwork.

Re: Warmoth neck

I now had several Warmoth necks, still have one and just got my first USACG. I don't see why the Warmoth I have should be worse than the USACG. If anything the latter needs a bit more postprocessing.

Setup issues with the compound radius? Really? I've never had a problem and the tech I took it to about 3-4 years ago for a fret dress had no issues either. May help that he also worked at Jackson and worked with compound radius fingerboards every day.

http://www.rondomusic.com/product2973.html Ok guys. So this neck is a 10 radius .I like this neck.More room at the bottom by far than the MIM. But Warmoth guy says it's dimension's won't fit at heel on Strat. So how do I get the spacing without doin the compound radious thing. If set-up is an issue.

Go USACG, Musikraft or pay extra for Warmoth to do a straight profile.

Like I said in my last post, I don't have setup issues with it.

That's funny, because I've had my luthier build more than a dozen custom spec Part-O-Casters over the last decade, and when I started this journey I was EXTREMELY let down by Warmoth's LACK of quality.

My luthier, who has built 1000s of part-o-casters, told me to switch to USACG and the the difference has been night-and-day.

That's right, NIGHT-AND-DAY!

I've also had the chance to check-out plenty of Warmoth builds at my luthiers since then, and I'm glad I switched over - Nothing has changed @ Warmoth.

In fact, my luthier discourages people from Warmoth, as it's a pain-in-the-neck to properly set-up and he's tired of people being not being happy with the end result (inconsistant tone properties make for some real dogs).

Tommy & the guys not only put out a superior product, they're fantastic to deal with :cool2:

On this journey of experimentation, I've found the following:

Warmoth = Fender USA/MIM

USACG = Fender Custom Shop
