Warmoth necks

Re: Warmoth necks

Nope, they come installed and trimmed on the ends, but not crowned and fully dressed. Also note that on maple necks the frets will still have finish over them, which is removed in the dressing process.

Re: Warmoth necks

I just got an unfinished neck and was aware of the fact that frets are not dressed when you recieve it. I really liked the feel of the neck as it was (I assembled it to see how it all fit and what truss rod adjustments were needed), so I did not dress or crown the frets. The action is great with no buzzes.

Re: Warmoth necks

the quality of their fretwork varies ...
I have a nice strat neck with a Clapton profile, but the fret ends had to be dressed.

Also, I doubt I would have them finish an all maple neck again. The thick poly finish is a PITA to remove from the frets.

Re: Warmoth necks

FWIW the neck I got from USACG hasn't needed any work either, and they make the same statement Warmoth does. I sprayed the finish on myself and used a notched penny to get it off of the frets.

Re: Warmoth necks

I'm glad you all were lucky with your Warmoth necks. Mine needed a complete fret levelling - three frets were uneven and caused buzzing at different points along the neck. (not a low action setup either)

In their defense, the Warmoth site is very clear that they are not responsible for final fretwork.

Re: Warmoth necks

USACG is the route to go. Warmoth is OK but, USACG necks are some of the BEST I have EVER played. Usually, much better than necks that come on new guitars I might add.

Re: Warmoth necks

Conversion necks for short-scale and baritone are available. I see no mention about custom bodies though. That doesn't mean they won't do it however. It might be worth a call.

The thing is, I remember contacting them a few years ago asking if they would make Gibson style bodies and they said no.

What about getting the body from warmoth and the neck from USACG?

That would work. Give Tommy a call, he might be able to make what you want?? Either way, i think the USACG neck and Warmoth body would be a decent idea.
