Was there ever an Antiquity '59?

I could've sworn I owned one years ago, can't find one now though so I am thinking maybe it was a special order?

I solved that problem by buying a used 80-90 59BJ off eBay for half the price of a real Antiquity. I find Antiquity is better for pickup models that there aren’t a lot around already. I haven’t seen a 59 Ant either, BTW.

Ya there aren't Antiquity 59s. Fortunately the real thing can be had on ebay for half the price and they sound great!

This is a good idea. An Antiquity '59 and an Antiquity Custom would both probably go over well with Duncan players.

I picked up an uncovered '59bJ a few months ago myself. Have yet to try it out

The Custom Shop could make a 59 with aged cosmetics and DunAged magnet. Could it have been that?

Might have been? Could've just done a mag swap and I am not remembering correctly, would've been '04/'05.

I scored a 59NJ that'll work for me

Thanks gang

I find the old 59s - with black magnets - a bit smoother and less scooped than the newer ones.
The difference is slight but noticeable.

I don't think it's due to loss of field strength or aging coils, though I can't say for sure.
IMO it's probably the mags themselves.

Magnets from different foundries can vary in tone. Throbak even offers A5s from two sources based on their different characters.

That said, I tried UA5 in a newer 59B and it's great, just what I'd imagine an Antiquity 59 might sound and feel like.

EDIT: Never tried a degaussed A5 in one, but that would be the usual Antiquity treatment.
I bet that'd be mighty nice too.

Buy a pair of Ants, get a unoriented A5 for the bridge and a roughcast A4 for the neck... that was what I did.

Better yet , buy a pair of regular unpotted 59's from Specialtyguitars.com and swap the mags to RCA5's , done .
A lot cheaper than paying for antiquity pickups . :D
