Was thinking of switching from ESP Horizon II to a Schecter brand...

I own a ESP Horizon II and lately I've decided that it's time for something new. I'm from EU and I was really starting to look at Schecter guitars. I had my eye on the Schecter Hellraiser C1 FR Sustainiac mostly because of the sustainiac and the EMG pickup aswell as the guitar looks sweet red... Of course I'm going to try it out before buying it but does any experienced player have any experience with the guitar or does anyone recommend me anything else? Budget is around 1000-1500€. Thanks :)

WIth 1500 euros to burn I wouldn't consider anything that isn't made in Japan or USA. I would stick to ESP/ EII, or Ibanez Prestige.

The Schecter looks promising for sure. I really like the Blackjack C1 with Duncan Blackouts, but it's Korean and if it's a thousand euros over there in EU, they make no economical sense.

Schecter makes great guitars but if you notice, their prices are creeping up.

If you mean to trade the ESP for the Schecter, then I suggest laying down with a cool rag on your head until that feeling passes.

If you mean to add the Schecter, then carry on

Re: Was thinking of switching from ESP Horizon II to a Schecter brand...

Speaking as someone who seriously wanted a Schecter and tried a bunch of them and also as someone who now owns an ESP Horizon, a Schecter Hellraiser is to a Japan-made ESP Horizon what a Hyundai i30 is to Mazda RX8.

That's to say, there's NOTHING wrong with an i30, they are in fact perfectly serviceable cars, but they're no RX8.

On the other hand, if, like Ayrton said, you're wanting a Hellraiser to add to to your stable, then yeah, there are times where an RX8 isn't the best choice and then it's nice to also have an i30.

confused, for 1750 American Dollars you should be able to get better than the guitar equivilent of an RX8. that's a cheap car no matter how you option it .. lol

Re: Was thinking of switching from ESP Horizon II to a Schecter brand...

Agreed, actually they're more akin to a Tom Anderson, however, the OP said specifically the Hellraiser, which is a Korean model.

Aa fullbrand ESP Horizon II?

The Schecter is the toy you get after pawning your real guitar for bail/drugs/pay for abortions.

The Schecter resells for $250-350 used... the Horizon? $1200ish maybe more

Sustainiac version might be uncommon and go for more to interested lazy people, but ultimately it's just a gadget you put in place of the neck pickup. Which you can just go and buy and install yourself

Schecter used to be a high-profile brand in the 90s when they were churning out guitars not unlike Tom Andersons with 2 strap buttons and stuff. Now their image is down in the drain with LTD with those strat-gib hybrid metal crap. Image, not quality, is everyting.

Re: Was thinking of switching from ESP Horizon II to a Schecter brand...

Koreans have built the largest tanker vessel, their Samsung is no1 in mobile devices, gadgets, VR, etc , Hyundai is one the largest (and most successful) auto makers, I can't see why buying a Korean guitar, (which is order of magnitudes simpler than any of the aforementioned fields) is such a bad thing.

Well, most people are judging the Korean guitars based on the strengths and weaknesses of... the Korean guitars... and not on Korean tanker vessels, mobile phones, gadgets, VR, etc.

Some of those guitars you regard with such disdain are nice instruments. Your disliking the cosmetics doesn’t change that.

Agreed completely -Go play a 500.00 Gretsch and prepare to be amazed

Good point, I actually have one of the lower end MIJ SchAndersons and it is a nice guitar, nice ash body, but the quilt top is Japanese photo quilt, it would be just as nice with a nice trans finish over the ash.

It ain't bad.

It's just that for a metal staple, it's more of a Crown Vic cop model than an executive limo version (And yes, same platform choice of analogy was intentional)

But Mazda almost went out of business in Greece, whereas Hyundai launched i30N which sweeps the floor under most german cars (and of course Japanese) of the same budget, it shines on what they call in the capitalist world : value for money.

Re: Was thinking of switching from ESP Horizon II to a Schecter brand...

The OP already has the ESP so I fail to see how this analogy is helpful to him.

To reiterate, Schecter guitars in general are amazing instruments for their price, in basically all of their price ranges, from the Chinese low-end to their Korean bread-and-butter to their Japanese Anderson-like line to their completely one-of American Custom Shop stuff.

Before this thread slipped into Schecter-this and Korean-that bashing/anti-bashing, the original idea behind the first round of replies to the OP was about how this particular ESP model that he already owns was significantly higher-end than that particular model he intended to buy, and how switching from one to the other would be a downgrade (at least in theory, since we all know no two guitars are made equal) and how it would be better to add to the stable, rather than swap.
