Washburn guitars

Re: Washburn guitars

That's a pretty sweet-looking guitar. All I know about Washburn guitars is that Jon Donais of Shadows Fall plays a Washburn, higher-end x-series guitar and he get's awesome tone through his Marshall JCM 800... I think he uses EMG pickups in it, but I'd bet in a solid mahogany bodied guitar like this one, a JB and a jazz would sound great for a lot of styles of music.

Re: Washburn guitars

Well i've only been playing for a little less than a year and I like playing Metallica, Audioslave, Chili Peppers, Godsmack, Zeppelin, Aerosmith all the way to John Mayer and other bluesy type stuff so i need something somewhat versatile.
I think whatever i get whether it be an Omen 6, Ibanez SZ, or Washburn, it should suit me just fine for a while since i'm not exactly a 'tone-expert' quite yet. :laugh2:
I'm also considering a Fender mexi-fat strat. I don't know about how good the humbucker is for metal/rock tones.

Oh and i have a Line6 SpiderII 15watt practice amp right now. Its ok for now i guess but i definitely wanna upgrade in the future to maybe a Marshall valvestate or something similar, Peavey, Crate, etc.....

Re: Washburn guitars

Not familiar with that model. I have an Idol66 that is a major bang for the buck. It has the Buzz Feiten system from the factory. I dropped an Alnico II Pro in the neck and a Custom slug / 59 Screw coil hybrid with an A5 mag in the bridge and it is just a tone monster. It absolutely hangs with my LP and PRS' and was the best $500 I ever spent on an axe.

Re: Washburn guitars

I had an X-series guitar, it was a decent guitar... I left the stock pick-ups in it and used it for songs tuned to Eb.. It worked, but I decided to trade it in because the neck too heavy for me, if I let go of it, the neck would go straight for the ground

Re: Washburn guitars

So what do you guys think about a fat strat(or even a double fat or HH) strat for playing what i mentioned above like Metallica, Audioslave, heavy stuff like that?
Do the mexi-strat humbuckers suck?

I've kinda got my mind made up on the Ibanez sz320 b/c i finally found one at a shop to play and i like it more than the Schecter Omen 6 personally.
I've played a strat before and really like it as well. And this may sound dumb but i really like the looks of the Ibanez SZs. I like that classic, yet modern look. I mean if the strat is better soundwise, i'll go with that.
So what do you think of the fat strats?

Re: Washburn guitars

I think the Fat or HH strat would be awesome. Kirk Hammet used to use a strat ALL THE TIME. So A little more research to see what else he was using back int he day (pick-ups and so on) would lead a really great metallica sound.

Re: Washburn guitars

That's a decent guitar for a good price. Before you jump, search Ebay for new/used Washburns. For a bit more $ you can get an Idol series W66-68, which is a much better guitar. If you can find one of those used for around $400, you'll be getting the quality of a $1300 guitar for just a bit more than this one in your link.

Re: Washburn guitars

The USA Washburns are amazing guitars - the few that I have played are as good a playing instrument as I have had the pleasure to noodle on. Is that model a USA model, if not than like you said its hit and miss.
