Washburn N4 redo

Re: Washburn N4 redo

My lefty buddy has one and he wont get off of it but man I tell ya Id love to try it out!
Hows the neck profile on these? That would really be my only concern actually. That neck heel looks very comfy kinda reminds me of my Soloist which had a great feel as well.

Re: Washburn N4 redo

Normal comfy C is how I would describe it. I can measure it later tonight (making dinner)

Re: Washburn N4 redo

Ok cool. Did you check the dc to see which pickup you have in it? It looks like it has some nice weight to it and they all gave me that impression but Ive been wrong on that too! Haha! I know what you mean about some guitar’s intonation being slighty askew at a glance, yet they’re dialed in as good as youd ever get...just caught my eye, I know you know your stuff.

Im wondering what neck you’re working on next. Maybe its a 700DX neck? :)

Re: Washburn N4 redo

That would be L500L territory.
Thanks for taking time to spec that out. Mine are all in the 8lb 4oz range so I was actually gonna guess yours was that much or more...

Re: Washburn N4 redo

It has been so long, I don't even remember where this 500 came from. I will have to dig out another N4 and see what is in there.

Re: Washburn N4 redo

Sometimes after a major change, you have to play the guitar to find any quirks that need addressing. After playing the N4 for a couple of weeks, I noticed the low E would sometimes slip off the edge of the board. I thought this was odd considering the new frets were wider and the original nut was retained.

I looked into it tonight and noticed the string slot was a bit wide for 10s. I guess this was done to accommodate a variety of string sizes. The string gravitated towards the edge of the slot, so I slid it over and tightened the lock pad. That seemed to cure it, but as soon as I loosened up the pad, it would slip back.

You can see the low E here

Pulled off the nut and filed in some shallow groves for the wound strings.

A very small adjustment, but sometimes that is all it takes.
