Washers and bottle seals as strap locks.

Re: Washers and bottle seals as strap locks.

Beware! Those Grolsch need replacing every now and then.

What a fantastic excuse for buying beer.

"But honey I need to replace these washers twice a week if I'm not going to drop this lovely guitar."

GLUG GLUG...

Re: Washers and bottle seals as strap locks.

Can't stand those straplock systems as well, they make irritating noises, need you to modify your guitar and will come loose in the end because of the extra leverage. It's a bad system. I use Grolsch washers as well, I don't know how hard it is to find those beers in the USA but it's very common here. Still I don't like the look of them, so I'm keeping my eyes open for some simple black ones.

Re: Washers and bottle seals as strap locks.

I put schallers on every guitar every time since I started playing and never dropped one single guitar or even been close in 20 years! And I thrash around like a crazy fool...

bottom line for me is:
I wouldn't think of trying anything else.

Re: Washers and bottle seals as strap locks.

Now that I know there's black bottle seals out there, I'll keep my eye out for them. I'm assuming it's easiest to order 25 in a bag, or just find a couple bottles of olive oil.

Re: Washers and bottle seals as strap locks.

I ate dinner in a fancy Italian restaurant recently, and they used re-purposed olive oil bottles as fancy table water decanters. Each bottle had a blue washer on its stopper. With that blue Tele of mine, it was hard to resist stealing the washer off our water bottle, and the one on the next table over, too. lol

You can get metal washers easy and cheap enough; I've been using those for years and they seem to work well :)

Re: Washers and bottle seals as strap locks.

On my SG and ES-335, I still use Schallers for the end button, then use the washers for the neck heel. When I put them in the case, I unhook the end and drape the strap toward the headstock into an available area.

Re: Washers and bottle seals as strap locks.

I used metal washers when I first started playing, one of my basses still has them on.

Everything else has either Schaller or Grolsch. Metal washers are definitely the most secure, but I'm not going to unscrew the damn strap buttons everytime I want to put a guitar back in its case.
