We need a new Pup!

Look... I´m new here, but I´ve been reading a lot and there´s a buch of people that need diferent kind of pickup...something between a Custom and a CC... Like a C-5 with more mids maybe? A-II Custom? What are they waiting to release the "custom custom custom custom"? (just a joke) Any Ideas?

Re: We need a new Pup!

I agree!

Some better winds on the Custom series. Something in the 12k region with a more balanced EQ and an Alnico of some kind - rather than extreme mids or extreme scoop of the C5 and CC.

I would buy it in a heartbeat - it would be my perfect sound! Something that sounded like a really big and meatier Alnico 2 Pro bridge - that would be NICE! With a huge sounding neck to match, that would be the neww sound for thinner bodied (meaning non-LP style) guitars!

I think Forbes was joking. ;)

Here's an idea. Instead of lambasting the current offering of SD pickups, call up the custom shop and have them wind exactly what you want. There are enough offerings in their lineup to make a pickup decision hard enough for the rest of us.
:)

You´re probably right. Maybe a custom shop will do it....maybe replacing the ceramic of an old Custom (I am not a big fan of ceramics)... But I´m telling you, check the Tone Chart and you will not find a powerfull Alnico pup with strong mids... It´s the only one missing to me

The Custom series have the same coi windings, just different mags. The Custom Custom (Alnico 2) has very strong mids, and is plenty powerful. The CC is also a great example of a powerful pickup (or at least a moderate to high output one) with very strong mids that can get muddy and a bit undefined.

Huh? The Custom Custom is all about the mids. You need to take another look at the charts.

Plus you've got DiMarzio, Bill Lawrence, Bareknuckle, Lace...I can't even name all the different pickup manufacturers I've heard. Maybe you can find what you want in one of their pups.

Re: We need a new Pup!

Try an Alnico 3 in the CC. It's like a brighter, more sparkly Alnico 2. I have a C3 in my 355 and I love it!

Amen -- one thing the CC does NOT lack is MIDS!

I was walking down the street one day feeling a lack of mids and this CC happened by and without me having to say anything, it took one look at me and said, "Here ya go kid," and tossed a bunch of mids at me like bread to pigeons. I hungrily crammed them into my pockets and tried to thank it but it said, "No problem, I got plenty to spare."

Exactly. As soon as they make something for everyone . . . they become the Wal-Mart of pickups. I like them as "boutique" for the masses. A subtle, yet significant distinction. ;)
