Weird Rewire Result

I took a set of P-Rails out of a guitar with one push/pull volume pot, one regular tone pot and a Gibson style 3way switch. Everything was working great but I plan to sell the guitar and want to keep the P-rails.

So now I've tried two different sets of humbuckers in this guitar. First set was 2 conductor, 2nd set is 4 conductor plus bare ground wire. With both sets everything was fine except for the volume pot. It won't completey turn off the the volume. Even though the pot is turned completely off there is still some signal going through, as if it had been turned only 3/4 of the way down.

I feel like this guitar should be working 100% before it goes up for sale. Any help with this problem be appreciated.

what kind of soldering iron are you using? you may have burned out the pot if you are using a low wattage iron. or you may have twisted the volume pot wrong, but try bypassing it in your wiring to see if that particular pot is the problem.

I'm not sure how to bypass the pot, but I did replace it. Same result. At this point I might just consider it a "feature" of this guitar :eek2:

Hmmm. It's possible but not probable that you've got two equally toasted pots. No one sucks that bad at soldering and lives to tell the tale :lol:

Are they A or B pots? Should be a marking on them. If they're cheap-o import pots, there's yer answer :lol:

Does it only do it on one pickup or with both?


Double-check the solder joint to ground for the outer pot lug. Could have been melted by accident during the install and reset itself poorly.
