Weird SG Question

Re: Weird SG Question

With a name like "Whole Lotta Humbucker", I would not have ever thought of putting them in anything other than a Les Paul. But that's just me.

Soldering is not the 11 Commandment. While much depends on the quality of the metal used in plug-style contacts like Molex and the like, I'll have to see Scientific proof that the flow of electrons is so greatly inhibited as to result in an audible difference (among the general populace) before denouncing it.

Oscilloscope readings and "but I can hear the difference between these two identical setups because I already know that one of them is soldered and one isn't" don't count.

Re: Weird SG Question

Nothing wrong with the PCB's, sonically, as far as I could tell. It's nice to be able to simply loosen the strings and swap pickups by simply plugging and unplugging. Problem is that I can solder in a new set of pickups a lot quicker than I can crimp those little pins on the wires to get the molex connectors assembled. Then, if you want to swap those pickups into another guitar that doesn't have the PCB, it's painful to have to cut them off knowing that you may end up connectorizing them again. If you like tinkering with pickups in different guitars and only one or two of the guitars have the boards, it's just faster to solder. So, out with the PCB. Unless you happen to be made of money so you can just buy pickups that you can connectorize and reserve just for the PCB equipped guitar/guitars.
